As with the other front and the rear guards, POR15 and Sika Stone Chip Protection sprayed on the under surfaces. Messy but worth it I think (hope). Sand blasting ashtray, glove box hinge, glovebox lid and top piece for quarter vents tomorrow ready for paint.

More questions: on my car when I got it, the area behind the grill, front indicators and front guard bars was painted black. Is this factory?
Hmmm....... Stanley headlight lens. Were these a later replacement? I thought they were originally Lucas or Bosch?
Brett, are yours sealed beams or the type that has a replacement globe?
Hi Stephen, yes those ones are sealed beams and I think I'll probably go that way. I have some Bosch and Lucas bulb types I could use but reckon the sealed ones are best option as the reflectors are all pretty 2nd hand. Pretty sure the buckets are Lucas.

Sounds good Brett, good reflectors certainly make a difference.
More questions. Is there a rubber gasket on the join between the bottom of front guards and the panel (rocker panel?) that joins them that the grill sits on or is it mastic? Also, is there supposed to be any rubber under the top part of the front guard where it curves around the shroud panel at front windscreen. Clay used a piece of door or boot rubber on his ute I think, but I cant find anything in the workshop manual. I can't recall seeing anything there when I pulled it apart either.
Never seen any gasket between the front panel and guards. I used mastic.
For the curved parts I reused the original gaskets which appear like a squashed small diameter rubber tube. Gasket here stops any mud thrown up by the wheels from coming out between cowl vent cover and curved section of guard.
There is also a significant hole at the front of the curved section which is originally filled with a thick rubber gasket, part of either the inner guard subframe, or A pillar gasket. I overlooked this on assembly but filled the hole with left over Dab off windscreen sealant. I had a ball of it after the windscreen install and it goes semi hard but malleable. Perfect for the job.

Hi Brett, I can only write about what I found on my ute and what I did - I don't know if it was original.
there was some 'spongy' rubber following the curve of the guard and a smaller bit near the end of the bonnet lace heading forward - from memory it could have been about 10mm thick and 18mm wide - I chucked it assuming I'd get some in the rubber kit
I used something I had in the shed (that probably came from Bunnings originally). It's 9mm thick and 12mm wide. I followed the curve of the guard and then added a smaller piece heading forward (see pic)

Ok. Got it. Many thanks Clay and Patrick. Photos very helpful. I've got some good boot rubber, might see if it can do that top guard job. Otherwise off to fyshwick where everything can be bought.
