a day away from the sandpaper
- did some tinkering - they aren't the best bits but they'll do the job
pulled the tail lights apart, cleaned them up, pinched some bits from another pair and put new seals in

polished the (rough) faces of the bumperettes, painted the backs and the irons and made sure I had all the hardware

On the side of the road maybe Patrick. Will be a genuine driver when done. The prettier the car the less it gets driven.

here's a pic of the end of the store-bought exhaust pipe
- how far should the tailpipe stick out?
- should it be cut on a 45 degree downward angle at the end or left straight like it came?
- only just put the tailgate back on so i haven't tried but ... is it usually possible to open the tailgate all the way to the bump stops or does it hit the tailpipe?

Hey Patrick
Your cracking on with the ute

Your bumperettes look good! Most of the ones I've found are usually dinged, rusted or got some problem. With the tail pipe I reckon it is a bit long and the tailgate will hit it when you drop it all the way down. I fitted a bit of chrome pipe cut at a 45 deg to the end just to finish it off.

The 'zorst on Grace's ute comes out under the bumperette, and about flush (hard to burn your legs). Straight cut, with a chrome cylinder tip (similar to the Nasco ones).
I don't reckon there will be too many times when you will need those bump stops for the tailgate. The rattling rods usually hold the tailgate at 90º. It wouid need to be a pretty awkward load to need to disconnect the rods and drop the tailgate... a pallet of VB from a forklift perhaps
Cheers,
Harv

In SA the law says exhaust must not extend beyond rear most point of vehicle. Not that yours does. But I wanted mine to end with sky above it so it ends just short of the bumperette end.

thanks for the responses ... sounds like I can do what I want within the regs ... I thought I'd ask before I cut it ... I didn't want it to be an issue on the forum - like hanging your numberplate incorrectly

I still haven’t worked out what is incorrect. School me someone.

(c) to the edge of the vehicle, if—
(i) the body of the vehicle is permanently enclosed; and
(ii) the vehicle is not fitted with a vertical exhaust system; and
(d) no further than the edge of the vehicle at its widest point.
