Scooter,
I see you have the supervising engineer monitoring your progress. Always handy to have an extra pair of hands available.

Stephen

Yeah, he's been a great help - he pretty much single handedly degreased underneath the car.

Good on him

start 'em young , my young bloke had no interest at all when he was that age, even bought him a project 1 tonner that he wanted and told him I would pay for the build and it would be his provided he helped build it , ended up I built it and sold it

Some of the cleaning efforts

Working back to front. Lot of elbow grease to clean off that grease. And a few cans of SCA degreaser

K-mac sway bar out. Removing the plastic dip coating, new bushes and a coat of black.

Axles out. Those bearings look a bit rough but weren’t noisy.

. Is the orientation the right way round with the I ring on the inside? Note to self, take them out when the diff is still bolted to the car!

So now I need to get the pinion nut undone. Marked the nut position to reinstall to the same tension. Pretty sure I broke a bit off my breaker bar undoing this.

After I went to all this effort I read that you can jam a rag in the diff to stop the pinion turning. Guess which method I used to do it back up?

Rear wheel bearings - yes, they've been installed backwards. O-ring on the outside is the normal way. But don't change them just for the sake of correct installation.
When you take the pinion flange off, you'll probably be surprised by the amount of wear where the lip of the seal bears on the flange. You might have to chase up a less-worn pinion flange, and that's about where it becomes a job for a diff specialist.

Thanks for the tip Rob. Didn’t get a picture with the flange out. But don’t think it was worn and the new seal was a snug fit.
Figured the bearings were the wrong way round. Read that the o ring is to seal water and dirt out, not oil in. Is that true? Anyway decided to leave well enough alone for now.
