So I could have bought a manual choke conversion kit including the butterfly and spindle from Hume Performance for a couple more dollars than I paid for the rough carbs I bought. Looks like the spindle on the kit is 5/8” anyway. I can keep the carbs for spare parts or sell at the next swap meet.

Keep them - every man needs a box of assorted used Holley parts  .

At least that's my excuse

Finally going to try the 390 on Elle’s new sedan. I pulled off the primary fuel bowl. Main jets are marked 57. Power valve marked 65. Could that be 6.5?Image
Apparently i can drill the vacant port above the idle mixture screw on the primary metering block and tap for vacuum advance?

Secondary jets are 60. Unsure how to identify the pump spring.

Or pump cam, which is in the first hole for lower idle speeds.

Some careful probing and thinking needed before drilling that metering block.

Thanks Harv. I will try running with no vacuum advance for a start. A friend I was talking to today has been running his 202 auto from there. I need to have another talk with him.

Just found this picture on Facebook showing the port in question apparently being used for ported vacuum.Image

That boss should lead to timed-spark vacuum, but check carefully first.
