Hey guys I have some questions, just some thinking I've been doing while the engine is being fixed up as you can see from the photos it's been gutted of almost all its wiring, just wondering what sort of wiring is best for it and what size battery it requires apparently theres different voltages and stuff I don't understand

Also whats good for cleaning without damaging anything/creating more rust, dusted her a bit but I want to give it a proper clean

they don't have alot of wiring in the first place, whoever does the electrical work will know what to use, as for battery just yor normal run of the mill 12 volt

as for cleaning it depends what and where generally degreaser and see if you can hire or buy a cheap pressure cleaner, it's nearly 50 years old it's been wet before so it won't hurt it

Battery is easy..........12 volt 260 odd cranking amps should cover it!

One easy fix is to grab a complete loom out of another wrecked ute.
The wiring in these old things are pretty hefty and don't seem to be as temperamental as the modern stuff
As Harry 186 said, they don't have much wiring anyway and are very simple to follow the harness if you get a GREGORY's manual that shows the wiring colours.

The more expensive option is to buy an off the shelf 8 circuit wiring harness from somebody like Painless Wiring or similar.
These are all brand new, marked an come complete with all fuse boxes/connectors etc.

The only deciding factor is how much you want to spend, or if you have the patience and time to grab an old harness/manual and learn yourself.

If it was me............I'd be doing the latter!

Here are pictures, it was just sitting metal on paint, with hooks around a custom bar that has been added into the tray.
There is no way in hell it's an extra from the era, concidering how it was built and how it just sat with aluminium sheet and steel bars sitting on the roof, cutting in to the paint and causing all kinds of rust on the roof and sides of the tray.
I believe its only good for trash, or a new kennel from Bruiser (the dog in one of the picts)

just came back from the Shepparton swap meet we did better than expected.

Grey motor rocker cover: $50
FB full workshop manual $40 (usually goes on ebay for over $100!)
safety electric horn $15 (will do till we get a proper one)
proper horn button $20
FB EK owner manual $25
tool set $8

Well done with the shopping The best thing you've got is the workshop manual the reference material will be absolutely priceless,what make of alloy rocker cover did you score ?

Got some picts taken on the weekend, some show Allison working hard on cleaning the shit off the door trims.
The backing on them is completely stuffed, water damaged, snapped, warped, and such. so they will need new backing boards before too long.

Hey Mick, there doesn't appear to be a brand name on it, but we were told it was off a FJ, looks to be an original thats been chromed

There were some good bargains at Shep today

Carpet's buggered, so I don't care, it's original colour is a blueish grey. gotta replace the carpet anyway when I move out.

Chrome rocker cover is cool, hope it polishes up ok At least at a swap meet you can check out the condition of things in person, yes I use ebay and YES I've been caught a couple of times about the condition of some parts I've brought

Re/Door trim backings, can you use them as templates to make some new ones? Saves mucking about trying to make the old ones useable again or maybe there is someone out there making door trim backings.

Allison found on a site before a place that makes new Door trim backings. so we will get them, as the current ones are boned.
