rainy day - so a good day to put a kit in the carby...I had the throttle shaft re-bushed a while back but hadn't put it all back together.

not in bad condition - the main jet plug washer was missing and you might be able to see in the pic that the last person to have it apart didn't get the float pin clip all the way down on the left hand side (it is a damn fiddly thing I suppose)

Re bushed the shaft. Should be easy to get smooth idle as long as you get the butterfly valve seated nicely.

another rainy day - I always wondered about the nut on one of my spare quarter windows - it's pretty chewed up, so someone has had a go at it before - but it has the look of either it will just fall apart or it's solid as

good day to find out


I've read the 'quarter window thread' so didn't want to give it too much of a twist with the vicegrips


so moved onto the nut splitter, but it was pretty solid


even with heat none of the above was doing anything


I'd sprayed penetrating oil on it every now and then as well (but not really enough time for a good soak)...I've got another spare one out there soaking now - but if it puts up a fight tomorrow ... angle grinder

Considering the shaft has flats on it, it's actually easier to just cut the nut down along those two flats and the end bits 'fall' off

- but that would have made it a short day

angle grinder made quick work of the nut on the second quarter window

these windows were 'spares' but actually look better than what's on the car so I'll use them

I put the indicator switch back in so I could check if things work. I don't know if there's a better way to get the wires down the column - they didn't want to go as one bundle so I ran two separate draw wires down - still a tight fit

Started by checking my wiring to the back - wiring is all good but when I tidy up the tail-lights I'll have to clean up the mounts so they actually earth - cleaned up around one bolt hole and tail and brake lights worked.

Indicators didn't do anything so I took the relay out and got a handful of rusty water ... new one coming.

Radio, heater fan, wipers and horn all did something and I put a multi-meter on all of the wires to the front lights - and all seems good

Looking good. One at a time I did the wires down the column.

welding is finished so I put the tank back in

lots more tinkering but not many photos - got a flywheel cover plate off ebay and put it in, put in the fuel line, carby, accelerator pedal, rear hard brake line etc

also bought a sheet of marine ply


cut it down and put a coat of primer on it

So you fit 1200x2400 sheet in the kombi.

Did you buy the spring new or already have it - I still haven't been able to find one.

the spring came with the car - it looks original (old) ... have you tried Bunnings - they have a range of compression and extension springs (unfortunately the website has the same stock image for all of them)

Without knowing size and spring rates it’s a bit of a guess
