If there ain't no oil under it, there ain't no oil in it.

I'd been planning to convert the ute back to column shift (and have collected most of the bits needed); but,
while I had the floor shift out, I tinkered with all of the joints and now I'm thinking of keeping it (I suppose I don't have to make a final decision until the carpet goes down).
anyway, so I took out the honey pot and cut away the gearshift pivot and patched it up (I've got a NOS honey pot if I change my mind)

While I was at it I 'removed' some cracks from the steering wheel

I did the blank honey pot thing when I fitted M20 and 186 in my sedan. If you cut through one of the two internal bearing supports you can point the hole at the floor so it is hidden. You don’t need the two supports as the honey pot becomes purely cosmetic, but then easy enough to fill I suppose. I was a bog virgin back then.

I had a bit of a poke around under the dash, cleaning up wire contacts etc.. and see my fuses range from 25amp to 35amp (book says 15amp and 7.5 inline for the wipers)
most of the wiring appears to have survived - apart from the rear loom which I ripped out before because it had crispy bits and lots of patches

I've got a stack of wire from when I stripped all of the ambulance gear out of the sprinter

so I grabbed some black, brown, yellow, pink and purple and made up a loom for the rear

nothing much to show - there's birthdays all weekend so have to get out early to do a bit.
I decided to put the loom through a conduit out the back (I wonder if the wrecked loom started way back when they screwed in the tonneau hooks)
anyway, I got the rear wiring finished - then had to get ready to go out for early beer

more tinkering...
temporarily put the carpet in and went underneath with my whiteout pen and marked the carpet through the holes for the accelerator, gear stick, dimmer switch, seat and seatbelt mounts
also put some new oil in the diff and gearbox

some more black paint underneath and new rear shocks for a bit of colour

Swish’o those shocks. You’ve just made me realise why the inspection cover has that shape in it but there is no way I’m t@king mine off now I’ve got the interior in.
I’ve heard people use a hot soldering iron to poke through the floor for the holes in the carpet.

I tried that on the wagon and Grace's ute, but the soldering iron tip is not long enough to get through the captive nut, Dynamat, underlay and finally carpet. I put a sharp prodger up from underneath, and then used the soldering iron to push the prodger back out from above.
Works well, though the soldering iron looks a little sad when you are done. Then again, with the quality of my soldering, you are unlikely to see any difference

replaced a few more wires - exposed wires in the engine compartment were a bit rigid - a few had been patched (multiple times?) and the ignition to starter wire was hanging onto the connector by three strands. The wires are still perfectly good in the loom, so I spliced in some fresh ones

also got some door bling
