I’ll be home most of the time, though I may be up to my ankles in concrete. Sunday would probably be a good day as it is forecast to piss down.

That's why I run 6" front with a 185 tyre - no clearance issues
Was very tempted to try a 235 on the rear but I think its too much tyre if you don't want to start belting inner guards and pumping quarter panels - which is something I am not prepared to do.

I am certainly learning about wheels as part of this process. In hindsight I probably should have gone 185’s all round. But I’m here now so will get it sorted as I am definitely not going back now and love the look of those jelly bean rims.

I had another look at the front end and decided to replace the coil springs. I think they may have sagged and gone a bit soft???
I ordered a pair of King Springs. Before removing the old I checked tyre pressures and measured the car height at each corner to the floor. I also measured from the wheel hub to underside of the guard as per info from King Springs. A pic of the one spring removed alongside the new.

The old spring has a free length of 11 9/16”. The manual says free length should be 12.5” (sedan) or 12” (van, station sedan & Ute). The part no on the old spring is 7412466. Can anyone advise with a parts manual what the old spring is from?
The wire dia of the old spring is 9/16” whilst the new spring is 21/32”.
Whilst pulling the car apart I am going to do the king pins as there is play on both wheels with the passenger side being the worst.

There is a 7412465 FB EJ sedan, no 7412466.
EK ute should be 7419138, same as FB to HD wagon and van

Thanks Clay,
I rechecked the no on the spring and it is definitely 7412466. An odd one it seems??

Pulled the spring from the passenger side that has a different part no from the above. The passenger spring is part no 7419137, which according to Clay’s info is a sedan spring. See picture of the spring comparison of the mismatched pair.

This probably accounts for the different tyre to guard clearance I had as per earlier post.
A couple other odd things I noticed was some washers missing, rubber grease seals and a shortage of grease in the wheel bearing cap. See picture of the cap prior to cleaning. Grease must have been in short supply!!

Absence of the rubber grease seals where pencil is pointed.

Yes, my ute had mismatched springs, both foriegn to the car, also.
You can use old heater hose, or go to car parts plus, for those seals.

7412466 is a front spring for FB-EH, and HD kingpin.
The trick with the Master Old Farts Dogologue is that the main text only shows the part number which was current when the Dogologue was printed.. and in this case does not show 7412466. It means 7412466 is not the (then) current part number.
The trick is to head back to page 711, which has the parts history. Looking up 7412466 there shows that the number was superceded by 7419138. Back to the main text again, and 7419138 is the FB-EH and HD kingpin spring.
Cheers,
Harv
