ratbox wrote:good but the FB/EK 1/4 is shaped to the rear light assemblies and looks strange when altered,
I reckon EKK001's "My Bagged EK" looks pretty good, that's got modified fins & tailights.

The tail light body is standard with a custom lens.

The fins have been extended using a pair of my fibreglass fin extensions

Paul,

What if the housing itself was welded to the body? It wouldn't crack then would it?

Nick

The tail light body is plated diecast

I know of no way to weld diecast to steel. Does anyone else?

what i ment was altering the shape of the 1/4 to suit the lights, by making the tops wider or taking the rounded shape out, i personally don't like that part of the car but he obviously does and that's what counts
deadslead they came from the factory with paintad housings on standard sedans, don't think you can weld as they're cast, maybe try panel glue or some type of epoxy, it's yor car if you want to have a go, have a go if yor still going low buck paint what have you got to loose if you get some carcks

I am not shooting down your ideas, just letting you know the pitfalls on some of your ideas. Its sometimes better to know a problem with something than put in a lot of time and effort and have it fail.

I dont care who does or dosent use some of the parts I make, its is their personal preferences

So far you have not ventured out of the box, but looked at the simpler mould and paint the stsndard parts. There is nothing wrong with this approach, and if that is what you want and are happy with. Go for it.

If you want to be an individual, come up with a design, plan it out and start cutting and welding.

I have been looking for some photos of Rob Walkers car when it was cream and maroon, with the Packard styled rear lights he made for it.
Anyone out there got any pictures of it when it looked this way??

Heh.. i will be getting a set of your cruiser / bubble skirts though. They are the bees knees.

I will keep searching for something i can use. I like the standard ones but theres always room to improve.

Nick, This is what I did to a 'Smooth Customs' fin for the indicator ....
cut a thin slot & hand made a lens out of perspex and hand filed the ribs on the inside then painting it with amber lens paint.

..or this is what Bill did to his...

hope this helps get the ideas flowing, give me a while & I'll pen a couple of other ideas I have floating around in the soup I call my brain...

Hey DeadSled, you'll either love or hate it. Depends how far you want to go.

Sputz,

Don't like the first, Second is good minus the double lights but i don't really wana go the fibreglass fin extensions.. the drawing is pretty cool though i'll consider that one. The lenses would just bolt to the steel inside then or would you make it around the chrome housing?

Finny,

Concept is good but i wouldn't have used those lights. I was tryin to find some lights that'd look cool but couldn't really find anythin that appealed to me.
