G,day Matt,
That's a nice looking outfit you have scored there. Hope you managed to get the original purchase receipt / paper work from the owner, that would be a nice addition to your car. Looks like you might also need the battery retaining bracket as well. That would be fairly easy to knock up. hope you have plenty of trouble free miles.

regards
Stephen

Thanks for the welcome Steve. There's a heap of paperwork with the car, including manuals etc, and the previous owner is constantly finding new treasures for me. He lives in the same house he build in 1962, so he has a LOT of "stuff" to go through. I'm hoping the original purchase receipt shows up soon.

Welcome to the forum mate, nice looking car you've scored yourself there, color looks great!
You'd probably be suprised what a real good polish will do for the paint, I'd personally give that a go before you decide to paint it. Have a search through some of 'Aussie Bob's' photos, theres alot of before and afters, it's amazing what a real good polish can do.
Cheers Muza

Hi Matt,

Good find. A lovely car
i particularly like this sort of FB or EK - as they are pretty much (Other than the necessary interior re-vamp) original looking.

I've been into - putting Spats, venetan blinds, white wall tyres and other period accessories on EK's long before it was cool ... So I can appreciate your interest in doing her up in this way.

However, I remember the vast majority of these old FB & EK's were like this car - none or very little period accessories, not even a mirror on the door.
Even car radios were expensive -so Bob (Your typical owner) would often have a cheap Coles (Embassy) brand transistor radio hanging from the interior mirror!
Bob was flat out making payments or drinking at the pub (And taking home a few long neck bottles) to afford car accessories

It would be good to see some kept in this way.. maybe I should buy another and keep it plain, like this egyptan tan & snowcrest white

Cheers, paul K

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Glad you can see my fascination with period accessories. Personally, I think it's the only way to go :)

I know what you're saying about radios (especially factory options) being horrendously expensive back in the day, and along the lines of what you said, I'm considering an aftermarket, rather than an Air Chief. Maybe a Ferris Bros or similar, which I'm presuming, back in the day would have been slightly more affordable.

You know something, until you mentioned it, I didn't even notice the car doesn't have a door mirror!

I completely understand the original owner not opting for the heater though. I mean, after all, it was January when he bought it.

I had an EK street machine in the mid 80's.

I had this fascination for the original accessories, so I sold the modified one for a nice original 2 tone blue EK sedan. I bought a set of new old stock NASCO spats from Rare Spares in Brunswick back in 86 and put em on her. Accessories were hard to find then as there were almost no replicas being made.

My wifes EK, we found one passenger side spat at a swap meet in SA, then found a single driver side one at a swap meet in Vic! (1986)

The car is yours to do what you want with it... Modified, Sports, original , NASCO'd up, 50's custom - I've had / done EK's in all these styles...my only suggestion is Put quality into the car, nothing cheap.

Cheers

Regarding the Sydney Atkinson dealers,
I would imagine the bulk of the HOLDENS in West Oz would have been built in Adelaide as CKD's, either shipped to Fremantle Port or sent by rail, assembled at the Mosman Park Plant and distributed to Perth dealers Sydney Atkinson, Shacks Holden etc. etc. and to all the country dealerships as well ???????
I suppose it would depend on demand and the number of sales for each model.

I'm unsure when the Plant started here, I do know a couple of blokes who used to work there in the 60's,(one done his apprenticeship when the "New" Hydramatic gearboxes were released  ) but there seems to be little info to be found.
I did attend there in 2004 for the EH Holden's 40th Anniversary (even though mine is a '63!) and was surprised to find mine was one of very few cars with a chassis number ending in "P" :? Did they actually stamp "Perth" vehicles with a "P" ???

Here's a little history from a member of another Holden Forum....................

[quote]Also as a kid, i remember the Perth assembly plant at Mosman Park, not far from the &*#@ plant on Stirling Hwy which is now the Matilda Bay Brewery.
Holden bodies would arrive by train, minus panels forward of the a-pillars, and then all mechanicals and front panels were added. That way, more vehicles could be carried on each rail wagon.
Id go to the rail freight yards near Leighton Beach to check out the new models arriving, and getting 'half a mongrel' :D when i saw the Y shaped exhaust underneath the new unreleased XR Falcons, indicating that the 289 was about to unleashed on the Oz public.
The 273 in the Valiant had been out for a year or so, and the 307 and 327's were just around the corner in the HK's. :driving:
Them's were the days!

BTW, great car............look after the old girl!

EJ and EH Body and Engine ID Codes explained

From a set of numbers we can establish some of the history of your EJ or EH. It is all relative to the amount of info you have. I will go through examples and explain what they mean. First of all I will start with the chassis number it is NOT the little tag below the BODY ID tag. It is found stamped in the engine bay skirt panel on the drivers side. A typical example would be 'EH12345M'. The first two letters will state simply whether the vehicle is an 'EJ' or 'EH' .The numbers that follow indicate the number for that vehicle off the line at the plant it was built and/or assembled at. The chassis numbers started at 1001. This brings us to the final letter, which will be either
A - Adelaide
B - Brisbane (assembly only)
M - Melbourne
S - Sydney
P - Perth (assembly only)
NZ - New Zealand (assembly only)
HAhahaha, just answered my own question

Sorry for the late reply mate. Yes, I did.

Finally got the old girl home yesterday. I was in QLD for work when the rain hit, so came home earlier than expected. Gave me a few days up my sleeve that I wasn't expecting :)

Spent today bleeding brakes and replacing the clutch slave. Front brakes are binding/shoes aren't retracting. I think the pistons are past their used by.
I also have a case of the ol' slow returning clutch. I'll replace the short rubber hose from the slave tomorrow. If Rares have one in stock.

On another note, does anyone know if it's possible to separate the transfer case from the gearbox in a '95 rodeo??
