yep...Motor Registration Branch, Box 1644 N. GPO, Melbourne 3001
lots of numbers scribbled on it:
21166 with a box drawn around it
JT U 160 across the top
22-2-61 (although the 2 for Feb is messy)
14490 (with maybe A/C written in front of it)...maybe account number
Malvern with a box drawn around it
267778 (with maybe ENo written in front of it)...maybe engine number
don't know if it has anything to do with my ute - it's supposed to be a '62 but that could have been a guess by the seller
- my chassis number is EK29258M - anyone got a way of finding out when it was built?
Patrick

The HR wheels are safety rims, introduced with the HD I think, definitely the wheel to use. Using tubeless tyres on old rims is just a accident waiting to happen.

thanks for the info ... I'm still leaning towards going with the wheels of the day though ... there's probably other safety improvements in later cars too
I spent most of my limited time today underneath with a wire brush - good to see most of the 'brown' is dirt rather than rust. Ended up using a hose on some thicker bits - definitely wasn't a city car.
Even though it'll be covered later, I also tidied up that hole on the parcel shelf (so now I'll have to lift the tarp to access the tray)

Where'd it go?
Could always chuck some tubes in. Anyway make sure there isn't any significant pitting or rust on the bead seats. You can buy new ROH ones I reckon as they still get used on trailers.

ah well, they came out with tubeless tyres - so as long as the rims are good, I'm sure it will be fine

I run with tubes in both my old Holdens.
"Tubes are hard to find" - yes. Nowhere in any capital city can I find tubes, nor in say Toowoomba. But in smaller regional centres there's no problem. For example, I can get tubes at Texas Tyres (Qld), and the tyre shop in Narrabri on the Wee Waa road.
