Some more progress today but had some major stuff around with the headlights. Had my high beam dash light coming on when on low beam. Spent a shit load of time checking all the wiring configuration from the dip switch to the headlights and the only thing I thought could be the terminal connections on the globe connectors were ass about. Checked everything in comparison to my EK ute and I couldn't fault the FB. Long story short.......don't trust your parts. I put the original globes in the EK into the FB and problem solved. Seems my "Rare Spares" globes are opposite configuration with the terminal bases. I'm really starting to get the shits with the quality of their stuff. I have spent thousands buying stuff from them and now know why they are called Rare Spares. They've rarely got what you want and what they have rarely fits or works properly. Also tried to fit some throttle clips to find that they are too small in pin size...... As my deadline gets ever closer this sort of thing just delays the finish time and really pisses me off. I wouldn't mind it so much if I lived next door to them....................... Sorry ...............Rant now over.

Other stuff done, bonnet on, radiator cross brace in, twin horns fitted, finished all wiring under bonnet. Tomorrow assemble heater with overhauled Ranco valve and finish under dash wiring and finish off all of the dash.

Mmmm.... me too. It has had me scratching my head for a while. Would never have thought to check the damn bulbs .

Hi Stewart, how's Old Timer Going? Sadly my trim wont make it in time. I don't even know if it'll make it for the Nationals. I ended up buying a complete set of seats off Rusty but they have stardust grey bolsters. I'll chuck them in to get me through and probably sell them off at a later date....not sure yet.

Wiring is a total head fxxk for me also. I put a nos wiring harness into my,van only to find the main ignition wire was burnt out (hence not so nos). I fitted it and then,found the black wire for the wipers is missing all together. I had to unwrap the insulation back till I found the damn wire.
Ran it to the switch and hey presto still no wipers.
Luckily its not raining atm.

I have to say your van turned out great. You must be stoked with getting all the gear and drawings. Top effort mate and a well deserved trophy.
I usually don't mind electrics and I don't have problems sorting "normal" faults. Its just the unexpected problems such as manufacturing or parts problems that piss me a bit because they can be so time consuming. I spent today finishing off the dash electrics/wiring and fitting the heater unit. I did test all the dash and lights before this and all was good. Well after refitting the dash this arvo after doing the heater I thought I'd recheck everything and found both dash indicator lights going at the same time. Ah yes, I must have dislodged a connector or something or its a bad earth. Well after an hour of dicking around I found the flasher can had shit itself! Didn't expect that one.

Well spotted Richard. The badge/glovebox lid has always been that way since I've had the car (over 20 years). I knew the previous owner who had it for about ten years and he hadn't changed it. The glove box lid was stripped back on this rebuild and the top and undercoats matched the rest of the car. I wanted to leave it there as I found it as it's part of the cars history i.e. options fitted. In my mind with the amount of options that were done I think this was one on the list too, but done at a dealer well after the original sale of the car.
I have yet to start on tracing the full history but so far the options found fitted were/are:

Sunvisor
Hood ornament
Front and rear mud flaps
Number plate frames
External rear view mirror
Windshield washers
Thumbprint dress rims
Door scratch plates
High and low note dual horns
Reverse lamps
Boot lamp
Warmaride fresh air heater
Glovebox lamp
Hood lock
Gear lever lock
Rear seat speaker
Hub cap medallions
Holden Deluxe radio
Locking petrol cap
Vanity mirror
Oil filter (removed for full flow set up)
White steering wheel
Handbrake light
Power brakes (after market VH44 booster)
Tow bar
and the rare one for a FB; Heavy duty radiator package

There is however one other "crime" that you missed. I've fitted EK stainless trims on the dash . I'm still yet to chase getting the old ones redone with the painted star pattern.
