Love the reverse on the firewall - well done. What is the plan at the bottom? My dodgy box was butt welded in from the passenger side so there is a gap between the firewall and the box. Perfect for when the the rear float needle fails as it guarantees petrol goes into the cabin behind the carpet
But its okay as that only happened if you are going down hill or on the brakes as the box was engineered to pool petrol in the rear of the box first

As there hole is in my firewall I'll be going back to the SU's. Was trying to source 3 with float bowls to the front of the car (currently 1 front, 2 rear) so I could minimise the depth, but have ended up with 5 (3 rear, 2 front) after I found a set of twins on a trip to the family farm. Tempted to go Weber as I have a duel set up on the Karmann that works faultlessly with zero maintenance - though it took a year of frustration to jet it right. Only gripe with SU is having to keep an eye on the dash pot oil. Love the sound they make at WOT!

Yeah, just having a think about that bit. Will try and angle it so it's a bit gentle on the eye. The squared off top is a bit jaring but I'll pop the regulator back on and maybe run the wiring along the edge to soften the look at the top. My engineer won't let me get away with any gaps or holes I'm sure .

Yeah, but the firewall is made of metal thicker than floor pans. So no option for me with an engineer who is very particular about metal thickness. And it's easier to weld for mugs like me too

A little more done today in between trips to the big smoke and other stuff. Not sure if I like it or not- but it works as a hole. Still got to finalise the bottom shape. Currently it has a ledge to replicate the original spot welded join, but I may lose that. It looks flat in the photo but angles downwards a bit.

Only noticed now that you have cut below the seam. My setup squeezed the back SU in above that join. All good until I had the engine rebuilt and it started smacking into the bottom on idle. New engine mounts stuffed it up. Wasn't happy and the mechanics temporary solution was to fit a standard manifold and carby. Never got around to sorting them out - till now

Yes, mounted carbs one bolt across to see how big the whole needed to be. Then hacked it up. I have no patience for fiddly stuff so tunnel, firewall, radiator, exhaust and steering clearances are all generous.

Still some prettying up to do but this is the gist of it.
