Arm Rests & Sunviors
Arm Rests & Sunviors
Is there any where they remakes the original armrests?
I want to get a set and put in some Lokar door pulls rather than the typical style pull handle on the door...
Also Sunvisors? or does anybody have any good ones, trying to get all my interior parts together and ready....
Could also use a Steering column mount, the one that holds it up to the dash.
cheers

I don't know too much about anyone local doing repro stuff (except Rare Spares) but why not try Mutton Hollow, Danchuck etc in the states as some of the early Holden and Chev interior stuff cross over - you just need to know exactly what you are looking for. We've bought a few (FE and FB/EK) items from Mutton Hollow and found them very good to deal with and when the stuff got here it was exactly the same as the early Holden bits.

Ive got some column clamps here , as for sunvisors and armrests its probably best to get them done when you do your interior so it all matches - I bought a headliner off Ebay for the ute and they give you extra material to do the sunvisors.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Cheers.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
Cheers Blacky, i'll try and find a time to come up and see you, maybe check out the ute aswell...
I was planning on having everything recovered when i do it anyway, was more so just trying to gather the parts, and if someone made new ones would be alot nicer....
What do you guys do wth arm rests, just get them made when you get trimmed or can you get the base to be covered from somewhere?
Also is there anywhere that does dark (black ,charcoal etc...) hoodlinnings would rather that than the ebay remakes in the white, offwhite, biege, ivory cream or the bone...
but i go one if i have to.
Kathi, are you able to start a list of whats the same / similar from these places?
possibly the sunvisors would be nice?
cheers

Hi guys
I tried to get a "cross over" list started on the dark side but no-one seemed that interested. Unfortunately it just seemed to deteriorate into a thread about ebay and people buying stuff locally as opposed to O/S etc. No matter how many times I tried to pull it back onto "hey, lets start an information sharing/comparison thread for those hard to get non-available in Australia repro bits" it never seemed to happen so I just figured it wasn't worth continuing.

Anyway John and I have concentrated mainly on FE stuff (naturally!) but we've noticed some things on 55/6/7 chevs that appear to be very similar to FB/EK (please note that our knowledge is limited in relation to late model stuff though!
). We did buy a day/night mirror for the van that looks remarkably like the "rib backed" FB/EK ones though.
Pop onto that thread above and you'll see some links so you can have fun and sticky beak for yourselves. When I get a chance I'll throw up a couple of things that I've found re the early stuff (most of it's probably in the thread anyway) but you guys will need to get your heads around the late model stuff! Maybe you lot can succeed where I failed!

No problems - one thing you need to be aware of with the 55/6/7's is that, for some things, the varying models within each body styles often had completely different trim specs etc. So you really have to search at times for what the actual cross over item is. It usually works that Australia used the "same" item a few years after the yanks did. Also pays to look at all the other GM based products and not just the the tri-fives.

I'll look into it...
hey blacky you have a 57 chev, able to tell me if the sunvisor brackets match up to the FB mounts? (if you have them that is)
Cheers

They look pretty similar , will check and see if they are interchangeable .
I bought some bits from the Filling Station in the US for the ute - inside door handles , headlight terminal blocks , and some of the bump rubbers that arent available here. As for a headliner , if the old one is in reasonable shape a trimmer can use it as a template and make you one out of whatever you like.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

one of the guys on ebay makes blacks ones for utes, so i've asked him if he'll do black for sedans...
just trying to stock up on parts and spread the cost out for when i eventually get to that stage.

hey there nomad its fairly easy to make new armrests to the exact shape of your old ones
we could do that for you no probs
as for lokar door pulls yeah iv done that for customers aswell
there is a couple of ways we can go about it
we could carve them in surfboard foam (great stuff to make interesting parts )thats what i made my armrests in then fiber glass the outsides
or we could do them in mdf again very easy to do
give me a call mate to discuss it if you want
