Good to see you've mastered the photo's to the forum, don't feel too bad about it as its taken me near 5 yrs to learn how to do it    .

Would love to see more photos of this car, have read about the surviving prototypes ( registered as Chevrolets originally from memory ?? ) and seen some photos but not really up to date on any other info.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Prototype History

Post by JP-481 »

Hi, yeah theres not alot known about American prototype 2 and 3. Thats about to change!!
I have full documented history on this car including the first registrations before they were regoed on the 12th Feb 1947 in Vic. All three were actually registered in N.S.W in Dec 1946 , then driven to Melb!
I have my cars original N.S.W rego details to go with the Vic rego which was Jp-481. Yes your right, they were registered as chevrolet sedans and when my car was sold by GMH experimental department it was amended to HOLDEN sedan. These cars never had Chassis numbers either and i have documented proof of this! This is sure to upset fans of Number 1 prototype jp-480 as it is said to have a tag that reads CAR No 1 , They never had this tag fitted in 1946 when first registered and i can prove it! I beleive that tag was added to that specific car much later on.

I remember seeing an old black and white photograph of one of the prototypes bootlid with a Chevrolet script type badge on it.Does yours still have it?

If not I guess the badge may have been from an period run Chevrolet production car. Were the prototypes GM Canada sourced like a lot of the right hand drive Chevs of that time that came into Australia?

OK thanks for clarifying the badge bit, not real sure what car the pic was that I saw that had the chevrolet script badge on it. I can remember it was in an old '70's mag I had a few years ago ( maybe Restored Cars ?? ) .It had a story on the prototypes.Mentioned they were initially registered as Chevrolets and had the picture of the bootlid with the Chev badge.Haven't got the mag anymore so can't refer to it.

Maybe wrong by the sounds of it then??

Badges

Your right sunny Tim,

We found the holes in the boot and bonnet where the letters GMH were once.
There was some type of lead filler in the holes and we have since carefully taken it out.
You can see the holes and i will post a photo shortly. :D

I think they had "GMH" on the bonnet prior to being named "Holden" sometime in 1948.
Sounds like the years have confused my mind    .
