Amanda's EK

Post by woodsy »

Here it is in all its glory.

1962 EK Holden
3 speed column shift
Completely original
Reworked brakes & new shock absorbers
The exhaust looks new as well

We have sprayed the wheels and given the tyres a coat of tyre black

Has the original spare in the boot ( We think its the original )
and the tyres that are on it have the Old Bridgestone logo on them so they are quite old as well but still held up to the 2 hr drive home.

It does need a little bit of work but overall we are very happy with it.

Look forward to bringing the old girl back to its former glory. I'm a mobile Detailer so thats not a problem at all!

Cheers

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Recent work on it has involved pulling the Electric fuel pump off it and replacing it with a rebuilt glass type off a red 202, the original pump will be rebuilt and fitted when we get a kit ( i'm restoring a hj kingswood and already had it's pump sitting there so thought we would use it ).

The blinker switch was very loose so i pulled the steering wheel off to find 3 very loose screws holding it in position, also the 3 bolts that hold the column together at the top were missing, found them sitting at the bottom of the housing so i put those in and tightened up all the other screws while i was at it.

Next on the list is a clutch inspection as we have to double clutch going into 3rd and its slipping alot and knocking / banging going around corners, but i will see if its a bleeding problem first before i start pulling it apart, at the same time we will be welding up all the linkages and re drilling them to make the shifts alot better.

I have fitted a VDO temperature gauge under the dash just need to get the VDO sender for it.

Will be cleaning up the door jamb areas under the scuff panels, theres no rust but would like to give it a tidy and a coat of paint. Are the scuff panels easy to polish up or better just to paint them?

Amanda is having afew problems driving it with gear changes etc so it may become my car sooner than i think lol.... If it does.... WATCH THIS SPACE... lol..

Cheers!

The clutch had begun to get some chatter into it and making the car misbehave and as its Amandas car and she will be driving it alot it needs to get sorted.
Image

So i put it up on stands and went to work, Most of it was easy the hardest bit being getting the gearbox itself out as it has some extractors on it and they had to be removed to let the gearbox drop.

It has some worn linkage arms so they will be welded up and re drilled / re shaped
Image

It has had this oil leak since we got it and i thought it may of been the rear main oil seal, turns out it is the front oil seal in the gearbox. Which would explain why only 50ml of oil came out of the gearbox when i drained it!
Image

Years of people not knowing how to change gears + we didn't help it. It also has a loose circlip on the mainshaft. Doesn't matter because i think we will replace the whole box anyway.
Image

Finally its out! It was rebuilt at some stage as it has a sticker on it saying so and also 1986 stamped on it.
Image

So we are on the look out for a Synchro box.. and she is contemplating going..... Auto... * Shudders* lol

the syncro box you MIGHT get away without a gearbox tunnel replace i've seen it done still need surgery, the auto i'm sure needs floor hump replacement so consider these things
