It has appeared on several sites in the last couple of months.

Based on some of the comments made about it there, can someone here explain what is so cool and clever about this thing.
As I must be missing something.

But I dont grasp the fictional RR mentality and bogus cultural lifestyle that is premoted around such vehicles and swade painted cars

We've just recently returned from Silverton - the XC coupe is used as a work car to/fro the pub - in all its glory of dents/holes/missing bits - there is a sticker on the window asking people "do not sit on car".....

I hope MM 4 goes back a bit towards the MM 1 - I think the theme lost credibilty when the Thunderdome episode was released......

It'd be great to get back to the original Aus theme - Aus car in Aus country with Aus actors.......

Here's a recent pic of the XC...... outside the pub....

i don't get into the whole liestyle thing but as to swade paint etc well give me a ball park figure what a repair and paint on an average EK would be, average being usuall dents and rust work and respray i can do mine for easy under $1,000 including paying somebody to give me a hand, for the above i doubt there'de be much change from 10x that and i'll still get just as much attention maybe more in the right circles
my mates dodge bucket RR would owe him next to nothing besides time and would get just as much attention as a $40,000 dollar hot rod

remember I AM speaking from experiance i've done the shinney car thing and i know what gets just as much attention for WAY less money and effort

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH A SHINNEY PAINT JOB IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT  :)

 OK my thoughts,

I love rat rods, rat cars whatever you want to call them.

Shiney paint, chrome, everything new,big shiney macho sounding engines looks great but after a while to me I get bored with it.

A massive mortgage, mouths to feed, ever increasing living costs and wages not keeping pace all amount to little $$$ I can spend on a car.

Rat cars allow me to do it and to enjoy the same thing the big spenders do on a fraction of the cost.

And without trying to sound like I'm pissing in my own pocket, I cannot believe the amount of positive attention that my old rat looking FB has got in the couple of years it has been on the road. I am constantly approached by people to buy it because,as the potential buyers say, it's different to everything else.So much attention that I have had to put a sign on the back parcel shelf saying sorry its not for sale.

I don't consider it a rat rodding cultural lifestyle , it's just a type of car done in a certain way that I personally like.I don't eat, sleep and shit rat rods.

It amazes me when I see some rat rods as to the builders ability to match up a hodge splodge of parts from various cars and put together into something different.

Something else,

Compare it to an antique piece of furniture I suppose,

No one restores antique furniture so it looks brand new.

Antique furniture is sympathetically restored, leaving all the years of use still there to tell its story.

To me, its the same with rat cars/rods.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

I have seen and remember your shinny cars, and like your swade ones as well

And believe it or not, I have done a few semi swade cars. But combined with some candy, flake and lace to brighten up the package.

But unfortunatly the majority of guys that follow the Rat influence use it as a reason to not put the effort into building something. and keep telling people that its traditional? That pisses me off most of all.

Not every one can or wants to build a high dollar car, but what is the bracket of high dollar?

An owners home built car, using their best abilities is sometimes the most interesting cars to look at. There is no better way to learn how to do something than to have a go, sometimes several goes. And the satisfaction and pride when finished shows. It dosent have to have the best body paint trim and shinny bits, but it shows others what can be done.
Rat based cars show none of these, and what must people that are not into cars be thinking when they see them.

But the RR groups are here, and will be for who knows how long. I have seen a lot of trends come and go, and will not be disapointed when this one does. But i dont think this will be for quite a while.
