Pictures of stock (external) mirrors?

Post by CHO576 »

Just wondering what mirrors came stock on FB/EK's?

Did they come out of the factory (as Nasco accessories) with mirrors? - or where only available later on ...

I have seen a few different varieties - mudguard mounted, door mounted ... but am not sure which/if both are stock. Some with straight arms, some with bent arms ...

Would would also be really useful is if anyone had some pics of their mirror that they could post ??

And even better - if anyone has an stock mirror that they'd like to part with (pm me) :)

Cheers
Jamie.

Thanks Cal ...

Do they have any particular brand stamped on them ?

- just wondering what I should be looking out for if I wanted to try and pick up something that was 'authentic'/correct.

To tell you the truth though - I dont know if Im that keen on having to drill holes in my door to fit them. Ive seem another variety that seem to clamp on to the door frame.

Nah, no markings on them Jamie. There may be something under the bit the sits on the door, though the screws are so rusted I'm not game enough to touch them

Mind you, I've lost count of the number of different variety of mirrors I've seen on these cars. I wouldn't bother with the left one (my type) as it's next to useless.

I wouldn't worry about drilling the holes. If the mirrors are going to stay there, there's no issue. Just put some tape around where you plan on drilling in case the drill slips onto the paint

thats good info ...

I have seen some that seemed from the period - with Wibroc stamped on them. But seems like I should be looking for something with Nasco stamped on them ...

thanks Tim - any pics (specially the door mounted variety) would be really helpful!

cheers
Jamie.

 And same with "Genuine Nasco Brake Boosters " which were made by PBR brakes , only difference between a "Nasco" booster and a PBR unit was the Nasco sticker attached.

Still looked and worked the same.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

I fully agree with you - would not make any difference at all in respect to the way they operate and perform.

But ... authenticity / resale / etc ... I would think that it would be preferable to have the Big N stamp for this reason alone.

To me the word NASCO means nothing. It doesn't make a car a better buying option whether it has the word Nasco on its assesory parts or not.

Some blokes eat, sleep and shit GENUINE NASCO PARTS   ... each to their own I suppose... just not my cup-of-tea    .

- Hmmmmm debatable

Most if not all nasco parts were sourced aftermarket gear (lucas, wibroc, PPR etc) with nasco stamped on it, the difference is the rebadged nasco stuff is getting harder to get because it was only fitted to GMH vehicles.
The only reason for time is so everything dosen't happen at once.
