The FB has now been on the road for 12 months of trouble free driving(had previously been in a shed for15yrs)and we have just lowered her

I always wanted to know exactly the same thing, its not as though they couldn't have made them lower.
All factory cars had this 4wd thing, wonder if it was to do with, the fact it carried on from the cart days. (poor roads, higher payloads...or did they just like that boat ride)
&*#@ and Chrysler were the only ones to produce low cars. Back in the same era.

I think it has a lot to do with the versatility of these cars back in their day. I can still rememebr the days when 9 of us (yes, 9 ) would hop into my uncle's EJ with all our crap and go for a long trip.
And the roads back then I'd imagine were woeful, like you said. Handling was sacrificed for ride.
