My special sedan

Post by EKDan »

hello to all, this is a great site you have here and i have been using alot of the advice and information for a while now
its about time i gave something back
a bit about myself im a fridge mechanic now after changing trades from a toolmaker, i live in the northern suburbs in perth with the ball and chain and two kids and two ek specials a sedan and a wagon
i bought my first ek (the wagon) when i was 16 (17 years ago now) and still have it,its currently off the road and looking a little sad :( . i have done alot of stupid mods to the car when i was younger and am now trying to fix all these here is my first piece of advice DO NOT USE A SLEDGE HAMMER ON YOUR FIRE WALL TO FIT TRIPPLE SUs ON it will look like poo.
the car came from sydney , aparently the owner drove over to go rafting in the avon decent and forgot to put the handbrake on. the local mechanic in toodyay pulled it out of the river and had it repaired buy that time the owner had gone back over east and did not want to pay for the repair and transport costs the mechanic then registered it and sold it to me
it had a grey and a 3 speed manual when i got it that did not last long, then changed front end, torana disks, brake booster, 186 with a 202 crank, lumpy cam lightened fly wheel, big ass valves in the head and a lot of porting extractors and the tripples i will put some pictures up later when i find them all
the sedan i bought off of evil bay about a year ago, i originally bought it as a donor car but when it arrived from sydney i decided it was too good to kill. someone on this forum may know some history on it as it has a faded nsw club sticker on the back. i think it was sitting for 11 years

i did a quick tidy up of the pannels and replaced all brake cylinders and hoses changed all the oils and fitted new points also put some new tyres on and hey presto a cool cruiser

the interior is leather and still soft
the car as it is now, i will do a full respray when the wagon is on the road again

Hey Dan, that looks very nice. Welcome on board.

Can see that you have already done a bit of work. :D :D

Love to see some pics of the Wagon, as you restore it.

thanks all for the comments, i did not know what to expect when the car arrived as i had only seen a few pictures of it . the bloke i got it off was in cambridge park i think he was selling it for his son or something. anyway the first thing i noticed was the ride height its dropped about 2 1/2 inches and looks just right. man it was dirty i dont know how many times i washed it and every time i did i found another rust spot i got a couple of blank keys and just filed them until they worked the engine turned over but would not start i think i might have cracked the fibre washer at the back of the dizzy when i did the points  that one took me a while to find. so when that was sorted it started well ,went well but did not stop  so i replaced all the wheel slave cylinders and redid the master cylinder and this all did nothing !!! it turned out to be the three rubber hoses on the lines. i dont think it was a waste doing all that as i have full confidence in the old brakes now.
here is some pictures of the interior, i know its not original but if gm ever offered the leather as an option i think it might have looked something like this (these pics were taken the day it arrived so it does look a little cleaner now)

i would like to shake the hand of the person that did the retrimming as the workmanship and materials are top shelf
thats all for now
