Removing leafsprings

Hello,
On the 61 EK the rear springs are held in place by bolt with a nut on one side and a screw head on the other. Would anyone have any handy hints on how to remove the bolt of a ute that has been sitting around for the best part of 20 years (in a shed)??

To date I've used enough WD40 to flood a small country town and the bolt has just laughed at my attempts with an impact screw driver.

Any help would be appreciated.

When I did mine, I took the nut off and smashed the bolt through.
If you can't get the nut off, get out the trusty angle grinder
Rares have repro bolts available.

Yes!
Those bolts can be very hard to move. If you get someone to help put a heavy weight on the spring hanger so the screw bolt head can still move out and hit the nut side with good hard blows. Hopefully that will get the bugger out.

8 pound sledge hammer worked both times on my ute and the van but took quite a few hits from memory

maybe try vice grips or multi grips on the sucker! Wouldnt recommend rares unless absolutely needed. Try coventry fastners. Make sure you take in the old bolt n nut etc tho.

Another tip if you want to try and save the bolt it to take the nut most of the way off, leaving no bolt thread exposed though. Then use a piece of hardwood or metal to cover the bolt and bash that.
I doubt Coventry or any other bolt supplier would have that specific bolt in stock.

Another method is to heat the nut with an oxy. Watched the guys do it to loosen the nuts on the exhaut flange 2 days ago... Get it glowing red and try to loosen...

hi there i only removed mine yesterday and i just bashed them out once u get it half way a long thick bolt or i used an old phillip head screwdriver to help push the rest of the way through ,i wasnt sure my self if i had to unscrew the big end of the bolt .but no the sledgy did the job

A handy trick for removing any stuck bolt like this is to heat the thing up with an oxy and shove a candle into it , the candle will melt with the heat and the paraffin in the candle will loosen off the stuck thingy a treat.
