Matchew, the only way to paint scallops,flames ,etc and not have a lip is to clear the hell out of it afterwards and block it back which I cant do with flat paint and shiny scallops, the closest you can manage- and what I plan to do - is pinstripe the join to try and hide the lip.
Rat , the plan is to taildrag the sucker so I dont want the front any lower.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
