Engine bay 'clean up' questions

I'm looking to tidy up the engine bay a bit before I go ahead and paint it.

I'm just making sure I don't make a dumb mistake and cut something off that I'll need later.

The four tags on the firewall. Is it ok to cut these off if I'm hiding the wiring? The two near the regulator, one below where the heater hoses go through and the one below the clutch resevoir.



I think I've heard that the regulator can be taken out if I put in an alternator from a later model. If so is this easy to do and can I then fill these bolt holes?

I'm also putting battery in the boot, so I can take cut the box from the engine bay.

Any other ideas to tidy up the engine bay?

I can see three wiring loom holders,
one below the brake master cylinder, one up high, & one down lower
by the regulator.
The bracket under the heater hose hole, is for the original throttle return spring.
It can be removed if you run a cable accelerator.
So can the two screws below the heater hole, & the two screws below the brake master cylinder,
if you delete the original throttle linkage that runs across the firewall.
The regulator holes can be filled as you mentioned, if an alternater is fitted.
The wiring loom hole between the master cylinders can be filled if you
run the wires out of the cabin & under the front gaurds.
All the clip holes on the inner fenders can be filled along with the terminal strip holes.
Hand brake can be deleted from the engine bay if you use a side mounted HQ handle, or center mounted jap set-up.

Mine still uses a regulator, I just mounted it inside the cabin, upside down,
in the original nuts welded to the firewall, then smoothed the engine bay side.
Mine is also still fitted with the original throttle lingage.

It's been that long since the old girl has had an engine bay, I thought I'd check before I chopped

Just went thru this with the panelvan mate.

I learnt the hard way with the sedan on what to keep and what to save.



Basically essenitals are -

Wiper motor mounting points
Handbrake penetration
Master cylinder location

Anything else can be re-drilled to suit ( i.e ignition lead pass thru, AC/Heater bulk head ).

Depends on what your considering running and how fastidious you wish to be.

a couple that i did on my ute was mount the wiper motor inside the firewall under the dash ( not that difficult) the other one was cut out and weld all the factory swage lines on the firewall making it dead flat looks great but its a fair bit of work

The firewall is now in undercoat I filled the loom hole, the accelerator rod holes and the other clips etc looks heaps better now.

Focus is now on the rest of the engine bay
