202 Injected
202 Injected
Well I have just laid my hands on a reco'd 202 with Injection from a VK commodore.
Has anyone here had any experience fitting one?
Any problems?
I plan to use my existing celica 5 speed.
Hoping its pretty much a straight forward swap over.

depends on what you want to do, if you just want to fit the VK motor and drive, no problems, but you wont be able to reprogram the VK's ecu
i am nearing the end of this swap in my FC but i am using the 186 block with 202 head, VK intake manifold with the ECU ( delco 808 ) from a VP commy, throttle body is also VP there are a few other things to do aswell but it comes down to what you want.
you may also find that the VK extractors might not fit between the chasis rails and the firewall may need a little massaging to clear the end runner on the intake. my FC ran into these problems not sure on EK.
if running your standard fuel tank you will have to plumb in a return line and install fuel punmp to suit plus your dampeners etc. you may also need to look at things like a surge tank just to safe guard against the fuel pump running dry on cornering and accleeration.

i've done far too many of these actually hahaha
ok, as smithy says, in the EK the firewall just on the corner needs about 1inch extra removed or bashed or whatever you decide.
extractors i used red motor ones and modified them to suit but whichever way you go you have to modify something in that area ...
easy way to fix the fuel issues is to get a centre punch and hammer it into the side of the fuel filler neck and punch a hole in it, then go to your local auto shop and get a 5/16 barbed fitting and some flux and solder and solder it in, note you need a good high powered soldering iron for this, but it saves welding a fuel tank and it doesn't cop any pressure so its all good.

fuel pump, try to get it mounted nice and low so it doesn't have to suck too hard to get fuel up out of the tank.
i also found the battery tray was in the way so i just re-located the battery to the boot and cut the tray out....
as far as the mounting of the engine goes, you will need to remove the dowl pin from the back of the crank and then use all the clutch setup from your current engine and then 5 speed should bolt on..... lash out and get a new spiget bush while your at it - come to think of it a full clutch kit might be a good option while the lot is out!
on the subject of gearboxes, make sure you block off the vaccum fitting on the front of the manifold which normally has the gearbox modulator connected to it (trimatic)
i've found the easiest way around all the vaccum hoses was to remove them and just have the hose go straight from the bottom of the throttlebody to the dizzy ....
now one other thing to think about, if you swap the motors over you need to meet the emissions for the VK motor, however if your current 202 is in good condition it might be worth putting the vk head on it and then you only have to meet the emissions for that block.
thats about all i can think of off the top of my head, but if you have any questions i'd be glad to help if i can, and i have plenty of wiring diagrams and such if you need them.
here is an idea of what it looks like in the EK Wagon ...

along time ago i actually did a bit of a tech article on putting the vk efi into an old holden ... have a look here http://www.oldholdens.com/tech/eficonversion/ and have a good read, it will most likely answer alot of your questions.

sammys info was great
his web page helped me out heaps:D
had a mate help out with the electrical side of things but still following sammys info
i wouldnt say it uses any less fuel than the old 202 but has a ship load more power thinking of bolting a blower on to it next

when you say you can't re-program the vk efi .... thats not entirely correct ... you can remove the black cover on the air flow meter and adjust it to make the engine run richer or leaner ... its far from optimal though.smithy wrote:depends on what you want to do, if you just want to fit the VK motor and drive, no problems, but you wont be able to reprogram the VK's ecu

i had the delco on my torana towards the end of having the straight 6 in it ... was a nice step up from the VK EFI and realtime tuning of it is magic
if anyone wants more info on that goto http://delcohacking.net/forums/ and no its not a dodgy website!
there is also a quick thread i wrote up on it of the delco conversion here http://delcohacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4
enjoy!
