My First Car (EK) *LOWERED WITH NEW WHEELS*

Post by J »

I ended up buying some 2 inch lowering blocks and some original EJ wheels for the EK..

Image
the wheels - i am getting narrow band whites next week
Image
it was the first time doing this, so yes that leaf did almost kill me
Image
blocks didnt fit so i had to grind
Image
Image
took me about 2.5 hrs to do the first side, and on the second side i did it in about an hour
Image
put the new wheels on

(getting big chrome center cap bullet)

i almost lowered the car on my head
then i drove it out and took some pictures :D

now its much cooler, although the wheels make weird noises and there is some weird scraping sound which isnt the U-Bolts

Looking good there J, don't spose the scraping sound is your tool kit hanging out the back?

J have you checked the fluid level in the auto? Is it slow to pick up gears?
If these are fine I'd be looking for the noise.

Car looks heaps better, 'cept for the mirror. But if you like it thats all that matters. Bit too gimmicky for my liking.

thing about the mirror is, yes they are on shirts etc and club logo's
i have seen maybe 1 or 2 other cars in perth with a maltese cross mirror. People think they are on just about every second car but they arent. I like it better then original anyway.

it says fill 1 pint or something.... how would i replenish and what with?
yes gears are very slow to change

The dipstick you pulled out, is also used to fill the auto. I'm assuming the hydramtic would be the same as a trimatic so normal auto transmission fluid should be fine.

As for the mirror I know not alot of people have them, although there are definately more cars in Vic starting to run them. I tend to look at cars as an overall package and try to make everything blend and look like its meant to be there. Not stand out, nothing wrong with those mirrors just a bit too look at me-ish for my liking. Plus if you want a timeless classic look you need to steer clear of fad type boltons as the can date real quick.

But like I said the main thing is you are happy after all its your car. The whitewalls should do the trick though, it sits real nice now.

I like the mirrors too! Thinking of getting one for my FB, although the standard round peep mirrors are cheaper and are less obtrusive, so might just go for them :)

Hey J...ride height looking much better now for sure....robbyr is right - those locating pins were too big because the blocks are for HR onwards, the FX - EH ones have the smaller locating pin, which is why I'm assuming they didn't fit. I would recommend getting some new blocks with the right size pin, as the locating pin prevents the block from sliding out from between the spring and the shackle, which wont happen overnight, but with a bit of driving you may just end up with the ride of your life. :o :o Would hate to see/ hear of something happening to one of our members or their cars. 8)

Keep up the great work...love the look you are working towards.

Cheers,
