It just pisses me off when I'm so close and yet so far. Exactly the same thing happened when I built the mustang, all finished, took it for a drive and it wouldn't change out of 1st gear. So I took it to a gearbox specialist and he says" the gearbox is routed" so $2500 later and it still dosen't change out of first gear. He says at least u know its not the gearbox. :x If I had a gun I would have shot him the Fcukwit. It turned out to be in the wiring only costing another $1200 to sort out.

The next car I build will be a manual.

We appear to be running in opposite directions, Malcolm - I have been threatened that my "next" car will be auto, air con and power steer - just get so annoyed with the dills who drive auto's in traffic and must race up to red lights...................cutting you off, then wait untilyou stop before they accept the green and disappear from view........

sorry, got carried away with manual lergie.......

I do not have any suggestions, Malcolm - I suppose we have to "trust" specialists - probably one reason I haven't taken on an auto yet - sadly, I have come to learn that there are very few tradespersons whom I have returned to with further work............... but have made many returns to correct mistakes - and have work done which I have been billed for - or refunded ...............guess that speaks volumes........

It's so close - your enjoyment will be even greater once your confidence in the build settles in......

Ah Yes!

The story of the old second hand gearboxes.
I did a conversion on a nissan mq 4 wheel drive (chev of course),with a T700 I bought from a reputable wrecker. You know the type, yeah mate
come out of statesman with really low kays, ok I said. Handed over the 2 grand and away I went happy as larry. Just before I put all the components back in place a mate says, why dont you get a shift kit installed whilst the box is out, good idea
Took it to the gearbox guru who rings me a day later and says this gearbox has done stuff all kays but all the shafts are bent like Bananas probably from a rear end hit. Hence the stato in the wreckers. The guys at the wreckers did replace it but only after some sweet talking and negotiations from me   .
Just a waist of time treading through bullshit, Its the stuff we all hate.

Regards Greg

Hi all, just a quick update on the car that I thought was finished.

Still having gearbox problems, so on monday lunch time the box is getting pulled out and sent away to be checked out. The guys at the auto place are telling me that its a converter problem so I hope their right.

Today I took it for a 4 hour drive (2 hours each way) to get the engineering side of things sorted. Much to my delight there was no problems at all and while I was there he did a roadworthy as well, so first thing monday it will be registered :D :D :D Also very happy with the cost of engineering, with everything checked, modification plate and paper work done, roadworthy done, total cost $250.00. :D

Only thing left then is the fuel gauge to sort out. I have a new XB falcon guage coming and I intend putting the guts of that into the FB housing.

I can't wait until this thing is all sorted as I just love driving it. I was thinking of playing with the supercharger boost, but when I plant the foot and the speedo winds around to the 160 mark with the blink of an eye, I think it will do just fine the way it is. Can't wait until it is able to change into top gear.

Still may have a play with the diff angle a bit more to try and fine tune the slight vibration that I'm getting.

Regardless of all that I'm now convinced I'll be at YAMBA.

:D

Well done Malcolm,
looking forward to finally catching up with you both............... hope you tightened all the body fittings - 160 - that will submit them to a decent wind tunnel test.............. of course you're telling us you were upon blocks when you did this - right?................ only joking - take care.

see you in Yamba - hope you get the auto tamed.. I can't help at all with these, my knowledge is equal to what I know of engine management..............

yes you have to give the late model fangled things that, they GO
we had a 5L VN calais from rolling start 50kmh by the time we passed the last car in a line of 7 we were doing 170kmh in a 50 zone   if there had of been police somewhere i think they would've bypassed the formallities and just shot me
P.S. i hate country roads where there is just no way of overtaking and yor stuck in a line of cars behind a learner
P.P.S. you suck MAL $250 for engineering and roadworthy
