motor position

Post by HOLD-ON-EKKY »

i have a ek with original f/e in it, it has a 179 ,on the original f/e the engine mounts sit beside the rear f/e mount holes ( or near enough) as in the pic Image
i have just brought a hr disc front end that is already bolted to an ek front that supossibly had a red six set up in it.
but on the hr f/e the engine mounts sit beside the front f/e mount holes

i am planning to put the hr f/e into my van with the 179 have these mounts a different mounting position to a 202 is this why they are in different positions, cheers fellas any other hints or ideas at this stage would be a great help

I would say the engine mounts should be at the rear of the cross-member ... my sedan had a 179 and the front end mounts were at the rear of the cross member.

The red motor even thou mounted to the back of the cross member wouldnt fit a standard fan and I had to mount a thermo fan infront of the radiator (note I was using a kinga 3 core and they are slightly thicker), but a very tight fit.

My van had a 161 which also has the mounts at the rear of the cross member. It was using a thin commodore radiator with no fan also and used a thermo too.

With mounts at the front you will defintely have problems fitting your radiator if you slot in a red motor.
