bare metal paint

Post by fat62ek »

yet another question. ive just bare metaled the new wagon and wondering should i etch prime it first now or just hit it with some red oxide paint instead.should i put anything on the bare steel first before painting aswell. i wont be painting it properly for a while yet but dont want it getting rusty again before i start. it is inside a garage tho.cheers wayne

Yes - hit it with either Deoxidine (or similar) metal conditioner or etch primer or both - especially in winter the bare metal will start the rust process quicker than you can turn around.

but if you etch prime you will still have to prime over it etch is only like an adhesion promoter

Too true ratbox - should've included that bit.

plus you would need it out of weather till you paint as primer dont seal it as paint does,, and is only good for sevral months with out paint it will start to oxide under primer if it gets wet
when they start building them like that again i will buy a new car of them

If you get a good 2 pack etch you won't have any worries and you can bog over it without taking it back to bare metal to bog.
Great stuff.

Hichem make a 2 Pak high fill primer, which depending on how much you thin it, can do the etch....primer and of course High Fill.
Stand to reason why you just don't buy 1 product that does all 3.
And as Mal mentioned you can bog over it, in etch state. Without the need for bare matal.
