Shorter column for an FE/FC?

Post by Harv »

Tried posting over on the Fe/FC forum, but it is mighty quiet of late :(

For a standard FE/FC steering column, is there a shorter column that will bolt in to an FE/FC (or go in with relatively little modification)?

Not looking looking for anything fancy like R&P. Asking for a bloke who may not have forum access.

Cheers,
Harv

Hi Harv
When I first got my FC Sedan back in 96 I changed the FC column to an FB EK column I was told it was shorter and it did move the wheel closer to the dash and away from my chest.
Somebody can maybe tell if this is correct or not.

I believe the FB/EK column is shorter than an FE/FC one - the wheels are flatter so overall they may be similar but an FB/EK column with an FE/FC wheel I assume would be shorter overall ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Was a common mod back in the day to put the FB EK column in FE FC.

Harv,

What Clay says.

In an FE/FC you can use an FB/EK steering column with FE/FC steering wheel and indicator stalk. Good idea also to use FE/FC indicator switch.

If you go an EJ-HR column you lose one of the three mounting bolts at the steering box end, plus you have to use a different steering wheel (EJ-EH doesn't look out of place), and then there's the incompatible connectors problem (Quick-connect versus bullet) for the indicator switch wiring.
