Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Thanks for confirming. I am pretty confident now that most of the flogging had occurred to the arm hole splines. I did a bit more subtle clearencing between draglink and sump. The HD pitman arm seems a nice fit on the original shaft, torqued to 95ft.lb.
I discovered another missing grease boot from the driver side upper inner pivot do I unscrewed the bushes and managed to get the control arm to come off the shaft without removing it. On reassembly, I attempted to add a bit of caster to the driver side but found that the control arm inner end was touching the inner guard, so I put it back how it was.
Also replaced the handbrake ratchet handle with one from my old EK215 as the one on the car had been bent back and the plastic handle damaged. I upgraded the rear view mirror to a wider EK one so I can angle the peep mirrors out a bit more to help cover the blind spots better.
I notice one of the bottom ball joint rubbers is also torn but I think I will chance it with the clipboard jockeys. So I think I’m pretty well there. The draglink doesn’t seem to be touching on lock. I just want to touch up some cracks in the steering wheel and do some more cleaning and checking underneath. Hopeful I will be able to get dome SA plates on it and post the old ones off to the very patient Mr Jolliffe. It will go straight on hysterical rego, thereby minimising transfer stamp duty. We are still deliberating on plates.

Elle got out for her first proper cruise in the sedan.
Glen and some local boys down to the big Coffee and Chrome at Mile End.
Big turnout but I just took a few photos of interesting cars.
Then down to Henley Beach for some pizza and cruise home along the beach via Glenelg. I had to drive while she passed the beers.

Nice work Clay and Elle. Fingers crossed for the big day.
I was wondering what SA rego guys think about batteries in boots?

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Be interesting to see. Most places accept them provifed they are well bolted down, some want a battery box (to stop the groceries shorting stuff out), some want the box sealed and a vent tube down through the floor pan.60Special wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 11:21 pmI was wondering what SA rego guys think about batteries in boots?

I’m not anticipating any issues there but you never know. I think the marine battery box is adequate.

Yes here in NSW, terminals must be covered in a box and sealed or a vented battery, some commodores and european cars use them.Harv wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 6:48 amBe interesting to see. I chose the sealed and vented battery, mush easier and as Harv says mounted securily.

Battery now vented to atmosphere.
Road draught tube. Not a bad idea but I hope it doesn’t lead to dust ingress on dirt roads.
Note the quality boot carpeting job.

There is adequate clearance sway bar to shock bottoms. Also I had a look at inner rear guard to tyre clearance, and it looks like plenty. There is a very minor oil buildup at the base of the bellhousing and no other fluid leaks at all I can see.ardiesse wrote:Clay,

I wasn’t happy with the hand brake set up underneath. The cables were running skew in the pulleys and the rear cable was very close, if not touching, the tail shaft.
I dug out a stock handbrake crossmember and cut it down. I’ve mounted it more or less in the factory position but a bit lower.
I deleted an idler wheel from the Hadfield rear crossmember, and ran the passenger side of the rear cable between crossmember and body, similar to what I have done on the ute with the modified KTG member.
