Yep.

Hit the road mid-morning, leaving Willunga between some pretty decent showers. Wipers are working as well as FB EK wipers can, with Pete Mallaby's BA &*#@ motor conversion and new arms and blades from Mal Lowen. I got my stylish FB washers squirting nicely, though in typical FB form over function manner, they shoot either side of the screen, missing it alltogether. I think I have discovered why they were moved to the bonnet in EK.

Car was going nicely for the first 60km, then stalled on down shift and stopped at traffic lights on the Port Wakefield Road at Virginia. Pulled over for a quick inspection and noticed the fuel pump bowl was half full of air. Yes, it was the top half that was full of air. Seemed to sort itself out when I gave it a rev, so I pressed on to my lunch stop at Snowtown Perrys Roadhouse.

After lunch, I pulled out one of the plugs:Imageand very glad I didnt go any further. Running more than a tad lean!

So I fished out my spare pump, filter, and hose. Pulled the pump off. Filter was fine, but I replaced it anyway. I soon spotted the cause:ImageI needn't have taken the pump off, but oh well.

Replaced the hoses, clamps and filter with all new and all is good. After a fuel stop at the Tin Man outside Pt Pirie, I trundled on through Port Augusta, then 80kmh, low beam in the dark to the Tandoori Guru at Whyalla.ImageMmm, chefs prawn curry, rice and Kingfisher lager.

How old was that fuel line ? Is it one of the ones you replaced when the triples went on ?? 😵‍💫😵‍💫
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Was thinking the same, probably too much going on too quick to worry about the basics, always fix them on the run ayh.

That hose dates back at least to Toowoomba. It is between tank and pump, hence sucking air. The SU float bowls have about 35mm 1/4” ID hose to adapt to 5/16” steel lines. If I had been more cool headed I would have spotted it when I first pulled over. Pretty standard stuff.

I was thinking of swagging out but it was raining. Rolled in to glassy Boston Harbour early, after a rainy start from Whyalla. Image
Got to my mate Merricks house to discover he had been taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In his own words, he is pretty $*#@.

So trundled on up the west coast to old mate Rogers at Mount Hope.ImageAhhh... the open road.

Engine is pinging. I tried retarding timing and deleting vacuum advance but no joy. Swapped back to the old dissy and seems to have fixed it.

There was a party on 30km up the road so I had a cold and dewy but comfortable night under the tonneau cover.Image

Great photos.
My understanding is vacuum advance really only operates at idle and the weights do the rest. My setup is similar to yours and I am running 95 with 16° static and 32° max at 2800rpm. No pings.
Have you upped you octane for the new head?

Awesome picture Clay, looks cold but going to be a nice day. Crank up the poor man’s heater (they work a treat).

Idle, and cruise too. No vac advance with the throttle wide open though.

Running sweet. I will throw a timing light on it when I come across one.

Recovery day Sunday. Farmers Union Ice Coffee from the general store.Imagefollowed by a sit in a tiny room with a view.

After bacon and eggs back at Roger's place, we topped off the recovery with a surf at picnic beach.ImageImage
