Great advice here from those that have been down this path before. Out of interest when you (Rob / Brett) say you have to fab a piece up for the sub frame what gauge/thickness new steel would be required?

My FB sedan has some small (I hope) holes in the sub frame, about 5 cent piece size holes which I will one day need to attend to, so just curious. Thanks

There are two gauges used Stephen, as is the case pretty much with the entire car, as far as panels go. The larger sheet panels are 20# 0.9mm, and the more structural legs, dumb irons and tie are 18# 1.2mm.

Thanks for all your input and knowledge guys and a huge thanks to Brett absolute champion.

The tray section is a bit worse for wear but nothing that can't be fixed . Meeting with the panel beater this afternoon to workout what we need to order , any pointers on different places to get patch panels would be great.

Hey Sneezy nothing really out of the ordinary there mate the utes always suffered there in the tray I have a subchassis replacement are if you want it for postage I’ll check which one it is and let you know.
As for panels we are pretty restricted Rare Spares are probably your fist stop but there are other sellers on say EBay check them out.

Thompson chassis at Traralgon make the rear ute floor now. Otherwise you can cut up a panel van like I had to do. Some parts I used on my ute and some went to other forum members fairly recently. Front and rear floor panels are readily available, generally through rare spares. Thompson chassis or someone may Sven be making the “rear seat” under panel, but the diff hump will have to be donor or fabricate.

That is a lot of work there in that floor. I would be looking for a sedan floor for the rear seat and diff hump section.

There were patches available for the rear lower quarters from Retrospares, but there isn’t much to them. The wheel arch section is pretty poor. I would just fold something up on the bench for those bits.

Rear of passenger sill may get away with a patch, depending what the inside looks like. Long road ahead.

Good info Clay.
This resto reminds me that if I was going again I would definitely move the wall behind the drivers seat (and maybe the whole thing) back 3inches and get rid of the angle so it was a flat surface. I will probably do this to the drivers side on my ute at some stage because there is not enough room to properly slide the seat back. It may not be an issue with the original bench seat but my drivers bucket is a bit cramped for me.

Yes indeedy, one of our members has done it. I would take the opportunity also, considering the rest. My bench only goes back to the second or third to last notch. Ideally I t would be a bit past the last notch, not short. I have worked out a comfy seating though. I plant my arse as far back as I can, then jam a foam lumbar support in, and sit more or less upright. It works for my back.

The bit you cant buy new is the hump part where the rear shock mounts are. It's a tough bit too because its multiple layers. All these repairs are in Project 2 and others. Unfortunately your rust was our rust😀.
What are your A pillars like at the bottom?
