Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
It isn't the lighting harv. The three cathodes have a whitish grey deposit. I think that the only reason the others don't could be oiling.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Mebbe me, and I could be wrong. Modern fuel (post-unleaded) makes a tan deposit on Aussie cars running 50-0s-70s carbs. Often black/oily from seals an rings. White is unusual..
Again, could be very wrong. Have not tested a “white” set of plugs against a fuel ratio meter.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I've had these jugs off and on that many times. This time, I was able to get them off and back on again without even removing the filters by having the head sitting over an inch or so. The last and first thing is the rear choke cable, done with the intake resting sideways and upside down, on top of the detached cylinder head. I even kept the thermostat housing in place. Now I've just got to glue it back on the front with more RTV, and bolt the manifolds up.I'll be glad when this is all done. Just want to drive the old boy.

Looking at the old head. It appears to confirm my leaking valve stem seals theory. Exhaust valves really do look lean harv.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
. . . I would almost be inclined to check exhaust valves 1,3,5,6 for poor sealing - on the valve seat . . .

Thanks for the comments, you two. Brand new head on now, all tucked up and running but for a slight fuel leak thanks to my dicking around with the fuel lines to improve clearence. No 6 pugs set to 0.060" per VH spec for the Bosch electronic dissy. Rockers set cold to 1/2 turn preload. I will sort the fuel leak in the morning and go for a run. Beer o'clock now.
