Yeah that $100 lathe has done a ton of work- it’s no good for precision stuff but I don’t do precisionFireKraka wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 11:54 am Mate so lucky having the lathe makes those type of little jobs so much easier.

Hope to have it ready to go on the dyno this month
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Gave up and grabbed the 5/16” UNF die and ran it down the bolt - while I was doing that I looked over on the bench I was working on and there was the 5/16” UNC die under a bit of crap on the bench …..
Time for a shed clean up………. Or a garage sale over the June long weekend

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
While he was doing his thing down the back we were fiddling around up the front - I wanted to put a heat shield between the pipes and the inlet manifold. This took some doing as the manifold was so close to the pipes that in a couple of places I could only get a sheet of paper in between them so the manifold came off for a bit of clearancing
I could now fit some CAD material in there so I made a template
Then cut a piece of insulation ready to fettle into shape

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
When the inlet manifold came off I noticed the bolts were all loose, the running in heat cycles must be the culprit - I had a new graphite inlet/ exhaust gasket there so the old one came off and it went on.
Cut, trim, bend, test fit, repeat
Finished , need a new base gasket for the adapter and then the blower can go back on

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
Did a little bit more wiring today, wired the temperature sensor to the computer, made up the loom for the idle air controller and the inlet air temperature sensor but the big achievement today was getting the quarter panel painted
Masked it up after very carefully sanding and prepping for a solid 6 maybe even 7 minutes
Still has some “character patches”
Mixed up some colour and let her rip
