Did it come with an allen key and some vague pictures of how all the bits with funny names go together ????

Re: Chev EK
Ha Ha,
Yeah it does have an Allen key or 2 !!!!
Painted in fresh epoxy enamel by brush, I used spray cans on all my engines and was never really happy with the end result so I tried this old school method.
First wash thoroughly, then wax and grease everything, then run a map torch over where you want to paint. Its amazing, what you think is dry and clean the torch evaporates, oil water what ever is left in the cast iron pores.
That done now to the laborious task of ring gapping. Chev parts are easily obtainable, the bore is .0026 thou over to suit the TRW forgies so I got .005thou oversize rings, I'm abaout .008thou too close on the ring gap so each ring must be measured and filed.
See you in a couple of days !!!!
Regards Greg

Re: Chev EK
So no updates for a while but I have been tinkering away !!
Engine measuring and checking for clearances and then assembling.
Got the heads on today and have checked the rocker tip to valve geometry. I need 7.200 pushrods which I have ordered.
Not much work to do now, might be back in next weekend.

Re: Chev EK
Plasticine smooshing is cool… and even cooler when there is still plasticine on top of the piston after rolling it over
Button it up, bed it in, then itching to run beside this thing at the Creek. Suspect I may get my butt kicked, but two early Holdens heads-up is way cool.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Chev EK
Building away, had a small wait time on pushrods.
Turns out standard length so thats a bonus for next time round.
Hated the dirty look of the intake so just painted it, makes the engine look really small.
Rolly Polly cam needs rolly polly rockers, or is that rockets ?????
Finished, nearly so back in it goes this weekeknd hopefully.

Re: Chev EK
Looking good Greg, curious to know what sort of clearance do you now have between piston and valves?

Re: Chev EK
Hi Stephen,
I have about 120 thou on the inlet with 60 thou radial clearance. The exhaust has about 260 thou and does not register with the clay.
It worried me a little but after reading copius amounts of data it seems I have nothing to worry about in this regard.
The consensus is that checking with soft and light checker springs as aposed to the normal springs, will give you an extra 30 thou clearance. Apparently the resistance in the valve train, chain stretch, deformation of the push rods and flex of the rocker studs actually retards the timing when the engine is running. When the timing is retarded that gives you more PTV on the inlet and less on the exhaust, hard to measure that although !!
