Yes well forgot the straightedge but don't reckon they will leak now.
The extension shafts that sync the two throttles together are fixed by roll pins not grub screws so no issue there. I reckon I had the jugs out of sync with the rear carb shut right down, which causes the vent valve to open.
Float levels were both too high. Hopefully better now but I did it static, just priming things up by cranking, but not starting. Got the linkage sorted better I think, and closer to getting WOT. Jeez what's the point having twin jugs if you can't. Just waiting for the battery to charge now.
