It has been a while since I have done an update so I will continue from where I left off.

The end game for de layering the 3 layers of sheet metal from the beaver panel was to get in and repair some deep rust along with creating a adequate rear mount face for the new Mustang tank.

This next piece Is the second layer of metal from the rear chassis cross support section that also doubles up to fix the back face of the fuel tank to...

Next up I mounted some metal to the front side of the tank mount.

I removed the original tank mount lip, held the new pice in place and worked out the puzzle of the side pieces and how they were all going to stitch together.

The tank frame was jig welded into place which gave me datum to work from to ensure it was all plumb.

The main goal was to make it look neat.

Getting the tank in place was a big win as visually it is very satisfying to see!

I then worked on the fuel filler neck and the tank connection.

Was a bit fiddly as I was originally overthinking it, but with advise from either Blacky or Harv (Can’t remember which) it was a simple task.

Filler neck is held in place on the body by the standard rubber, and then held on the other end by the joiner hose.

I cut the mustang filler point out and blanked it over.

The tank is now with the local radiator mob so they can solder it all over for me and then pressure test it.

So the work in the tank is about 100 hours worth and man it’s hard to see where the time goes.

It has been nice to work on something else for a bit now...

I met a motor trimmer who is retired and works from his shed at home to keep himself busy, so I dropped all of my interior to him so he can fix some rips and give everything a double stitch.

Look like the front seat needs a full re trim so that will be nice for my bum on the drives haha.

Hardest thing with motor trimmers is that previous guys told me how they want my interior to be and they wouldn’t listen to what I wanted, also the attitude of ‘if it’s not a full job we don’t want to do it’ really pissed me off.
So to meet this retired bloke was excellent, he listened to what I want and he is doing exactly that.
I only want the interior neatened up so it’s not going to get damaged simply by sitting in it.

Whilst he is stating on that he got me working on the broken sun visors.
New Masonite boards and thick card board liner were cut and the frames were sand blasted and painted.
I’m simply getting the old material are stitched back on, it won’t be perfect but it will suit the rest of the car.

Many EK standards, utes and vans were delivered new with stainless surrounds, chrome dash and headlight, tailight surrounds.
My observations are this was particularly more prevalent in mid to late EKs. This is also the case with indicators (black loom vs. Blue loom)
There are also many FBs and earlier EKs I have seen, being original unrestored cars that also appear to have chrome fitment. I would expect that this related to parts stock. If there was surplus or low levels at a plant. It is also likely many dealers, or new owners jazzed their car up but there are too many examples to consider the latter was the only occurrence.
