Re: Project 2.
sounds like you are all over it - burnouts and manual gearboxes are what keeps us young , at heart anyway.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

You lot are getting as forgetful as I am. I remember the "move the M20 shifter forward" story too... but could not find it.

Re: Project 2.
That is quite clever,
Only thing that would cause concern is leaning forward to use the shifter in that position, I suppose there is always scope to reshape the actual lever up and rearward over the seat.
That's what I love about this era of cars and modifications, anything is possible !

So many cars so little time!
Re: Project 2.
Thanks Blacky, I searched to no avail and then Harv sorted the mystery missing posts
. Many thanks. Looks pretty straight forward in the pics. Floor work looks minimal too so that's a bonus. Agree Greg, everything is so much more simple on these cars. Wonder if I can jam 4speed onto a grey motor?

Seen the m20 to grey done but not well. Issue is the rear grey mounts on the bellhousing.

Re: Project 2.
Id reckon you would have to use grey engine mounts and also rear M20 mount as well. Would be tricky to align probably.

Re: Project 2.
Hey Brett, I have a 202, m20, in an auto body. Didn't do any of the work so I don't have the knowledge, but I can take some pictures and do some measurements if that helps. Oh yeah, and I've still got the triple SU's if you are tempted

Thanks Scott. I'm a way off doing any of this, just working out options at the moment. Many thanks for your offers - I'll pester you about photos etc when I get going. I like SUs and remember spending many hours on a regular basis getting mixtures even with a see through spark plug( still got that) and an air flow meter( gone). Warnaford manifold from memory. I'll see how I go on standard set up before taking the SU plunge

Re: Project 2.
Loved the SU's, especially the sound they made when you put you foot down. BUT, they are a pig to keep balanced (mind you I was pretty old school and did it by ear with a bit of hose), and they required a hole through the fire wall to fit! Still don't know how that past engineering at the time. It was all boxed in and welded up, but seems a bit dodgy.
They ended up getting removed when I got the engine reco'ed. The new engine mounts sat everything up just a bit higher so when you started the engine and at rough idle, you could hear the top of the fuel bowl knocking on the firewall.
Should have persisted on a fix, but was really over it at the time and I needed the car, so I and got the mechanic to fit a Stromburg. It was never the same

Oo err! Exciting Brett.
What is the casting number on the head? Going by the thermostat housing it may be 149 or 179 though the manifolds are later, with PCV.

March 14th 1967 casting date? EH 179 is 7420001. 149 HC is 7420109. Is there an H to left of casting number? Just rear of the front passenger head bolt I think, although they do vary.

Re: Project 2.
Yes, H right up the front near first head bolt. Couldn't read the last of the long number clearly.
