Hours of fun adapting throttle linkage to the red motor. The carb is a single barrel Stromberg from LH LX 173 manual. All I need is a bit of flexible fuel hose and I can fire it up. Have a muffler and tail pipe rigged up but it's s bit close to the fuel tank. It's s bit tight on the commercials. Still need to put a radiator in it.Image

I think from memory there is a couple of springs that hold the hose away from the tyres on the stock set up - may be same for yours?

Might have a play with adjusting the camber and caster when I bleed the brakes. I noticed passenger side front hose is rubbing on tyre.

Thanks Rob but no springs on mine. HR disc is a different story. It is just a matter of playing with the tube nuts to get the errant hose to bend away from the rim edge.

Yes Harv I’ve got that. Just getting the float chamber filled up, then I’ll put power to coil and should start if I’ve got the timing about right. Battery on charge and will have a go after work today.

Think I've got every thing connected up correctly but I'm getting no spark. This is a new high energy coil, non resistor, compatible with the Bosch electronic dizzy. Well I bought it two years ago and had the motor running with it then, since when has sat in the carport until I pulled it off to paint the engine.

Regardless of whether I have the timing correct there is no spark at the plugs. Also bridged between coil high tension terminal and no 4 plug and no spark there either.

Question is do I have the coil correctly wired? I have 12V to coil positive and green wire on distributor to negative terminal. There are two wires go the distributor. Green I believe is ignition and brown for a tacho. I have tried connecting each in turn, but in any case it appears the fault is at the coil. I do have a box of various old coils but haven't tried any yet......

Hi Clay have you tried coil separate from points? Just powering the coil on and off direct. Probably a points/ condenser thing if it works powered direct. Are you getting a spark at points when you twist rotor with power on ?

Electronic distributor Brett so no points. Coil doesn’t seem to be sending HT spark to distributor.

Theres your trouble.Too high tech.😁 There's only two circuits in a coil. If you power and depower the primary the induction powers the secondary. Its highly unlikely coil is malfunctioning, its got to be power supply to primary. Have you tried the coil on its own ?

As above bridged coil HT to earth with 13V at positive terminal and nothing. Should bang off a spark no?

Getting a weak spark direct from coil. I will clean all the contacts and try again.

Last night on falling asleep I remembered I have a complete runner blue motor sitting there. I will compare connections and substitute coil and/or distributor and go from there.

Well well, swapped out coil for the one on my blue motor and strong spark straight off. Also noticed on the blue motor that brown wire was to positive on coil as well as a suppressor and it is a factory Bosch coil.

Got it go run briefly then stalled. Time for lunch.
