Re: Ric's 61 Special
Nice FC Ric
You would be hard pressed to find one as good as that now, we’ll done. Looks like the owner had put a protective sock over the accelerator to stop the wear. How many miles has it travelled?
Regards
Stephen

Good to see you back Patrick, we don’t have enough Patrick’s on here.
Outstanding FC. There are so many really lovely pastel greens in the FB EK range, and now another one. Probably Pinecrest carries over in to the early FB duco range. Thanks for posting.

Sounds like something my father in law would have done

Re: Ric's 61 Special
Thanks Steve,
Agreed mate, I’ve been looking at cars for ever, and this FC is very unique, and a great back story.
The owners son told me his dad was always worried about things wearing in the car, so yes he made the throttle pedal cover at work and it’s actually riveted together and just slides off.
The floor rubbers are both still original, and the reason this is as his dad used to wear his slippers to the car, and keep his work boots in a box in the boot, so a cover on the pedal and floor rubbers that are not to bad for 61 years old, the slipper trick worked.
Your absolutely right Billy, this is exactly what dads back then would do.
Your dad sounds like what my dad was like.
Always wiping his car down after his drive home from work every day, tyre black every Saturday after washing his car in kero and water and like this chap a protective cover on the pedal.
Cars were looked after and treasured back then and a real family member, not just a disposable item most are treated like in this day and age.
Thanks for the welcome back Clay.
You are right mate, some of those 50’s and 60’s colours are truely timelessness.
I am just thankful to have found this lovely car.

Re: Ric's 61 Special
What a beauty - we need to find you some tin master cylinders to really finish her off
My parents had an AP6 Valiant wagon for YEARS and when I lived at home it was one of my jobs to wash it every Saturday after footy with hot water , kero and a chamois to finish - and God forbid you should put the chamois away either too wet or too dry !!!!

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Ric's 61 Special
Oh GOD Blacky,
I had forgotten about the bloody chamois.
My nightmare!
I could never seem to get it just right!
Then the metho on the windows with the newspaper,
But OHHHHHHH NO.
Had to be the Daily Telegraph or the Daily Mirror (less page 3 of course) as the local newspapers were “crap” for doing windows
Well according to dad anyway
I can’t understand mate, why no one has made the master cylinder tins, they would sell thousands.
Of all the replica parts they make out there, one would have thought, these would have been one of the first things they produced.

Re: Ric's 61 Special
Gotta laugh... my kids hate the chamois.
“But wouldn’t it be easier to use a towel?”
“No... use the ()$&& chamois.”
“But it doesn’t dry properly”
“Wring it out”.
Still remember when tyre black came in a tin and was painted on.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Ric's 61 Special1
That’s all I remember the tyre black coming in Harv, a steel tin with a steel pop off lid.
I made the almost fatal error of accidentally tipping over the tyre black can in the boot of my dads HD.
I made an executive decision, (aged 13] to then completely paint the entire boot rubber, instead of trying to wipe up or cover my mess.
“Dad’s going to kill me, revive me, then kill me again” I thought.
But when he saw my finished job, and how “new” the boot looked, he was quite impressed.
He then started doing this every year.
See I’m a genius!

Re: Ric's 61 Special
Worked as a rat in dad's mates car yard as a kid, and would have a hubcap full of tyre black and go round and paint the tyres mainly early 70s valiants. Was right next to the Goodwood road underpass.

Re: Ric's 61 Special
Prolly early beetle from memory. Always liked them. Like a baby moon cap, deep and round, hold plenty tyre black.

Re: Ric's 61 Special
There will be a Dak Dak restorer out there somewhere, scratching his head, wondering why the factory painted the inside of some hubcaps black.Errol62 wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:21 pmProlly early beetle from memory. Always liked them. Like a baby moon cap, deep and round, hold plenty tyre black.
That's how the Canadian block myth got started too
