I have visions of me putting the boot into it, only to have two wads of incandescent steel wool get ejected out the back . Trailer would definitely be a good idea.

we did a torana years ago at a place i used to work when you had to go to the EPA at i think yagoona, i think they knew what was going on cause it still had a big exhaust with straight through mufflers and you could barely hear it  we got a stern you know if you keep getting defected for noise the fine can get very expensive, a couple of days and it was as loud as it started

Harv,

Have you got a cross over pipe in your system, balances the pitch and makes it a little nicer on the ears !!!

I have never liked loud exhaust that claps away, I prefer the deep rumble type that lets you hear the engine noise !!!!

You must be close now for rego ??

Yep, it has a crossover pipe just after the trans. It’s not too bad - cranky down low, a little droney at 80km/h, then clears at 90.

Noise, blue slip, rego.

Things have been quiet on the wagon front with The Virus at play. Figured that getting the 'zorst sorted and blue slip done would probably not meet the "Essential" guidance, and did not fancy a $1300 fine. The NSW RMS have recently updated their website, and made it clear that engineering activities (VSCC) is Essential. Great news for me... stuck at home, and allowed to play :D

Made some baffles up, and fronted up for the noise test. Needed 96dB@3300rpm. The guys laughed as I backed it into the workshop... still 100dB. More 'zorst work booked in for Tuesday.

Found out that the fuel gauge on the new tank is out by a bit. Managed to roll it into the servo (just!) then push it the last 10m to the bowser. Must have been the only lucky event for me for a while... could well have run dry in stop/start Sydney traffic.

I'm not on speaking terms with the bonnet.

It needs to go down 5mm at the back, but is out of hinge travel. I need a second set of hands to take the bonnet off so I can flog-out the hinge holes, but Number One Son is making himself scarce.

The windscreen washers still dribble all over the shiny red paint. Have tried a check valve, but not successful. Temporary fix is to run the washer bottle dry. Needs more thought on how to run the lines from the pump to the nozzles to avoid engine heat pushing the water out of the lines.

The "O" from the HOLDEN badge fell off. It only has one pin. Tried to StickyFlex it back on, only to find my tube of StickyFlex had gone off.

Harv,

You said you had 100 dB noise level, and you needed 96 . . . a 4 dB difference is hardly discernible to the human ear.

Decibels are a log power scale, rather than linear. The difference between 96 and 100 is like moving from a 4-stroke mower to a circular saw. Both are obnoxious, but the saw you can really “feel”. A better example would be 90 to 100 being like moving from a hairdryer to a helicopter.

I’m just itching to get this thing on the road. Number 2 Daughter gets her learners permit soon, and the driveway is full of cars. Be nice to be able to drive some rather than do The Castle thing all the time.

Hi Harv, sounds like you are getting very close to where you want to be. For some reason 'I'm not on speaking terms with the bonnet' just resonated. I think that's the best line on the forum for 2020 so far. Made me chuckle to my bones. Thanks.

Passed the noise test... just. The new mufflers are a bolt in, flanged swap for the old ones. The old ones are now hanging on the wall. Must resist temptation.... willpower is weak....

Info all sent to the engineer, should have the certificate by early next week. Blue slip, then plates.
