Auto electrician came yesterday and sorted the reverse and neutral safety switches, he found that I did have my wiring correct but that the micro switches just need a little adjustment to get them to activate correctly I felt like a bit of a dick   but I'm glad I got the expert back anyway.

I also spoke to the guy that I bought the engine off of and he agrees that the issue I had with it not starting and then the stalling at the intersections is probably fuel pressure related.

When he ran this engine in his VH/L commodore hill climb car, he ran an external Bosch 044 fuel pump along with the VL in tank pump, the Bosch pump produces 4 bar pressure, I run a VP Commodore fuel tank and in tank pump, these pumps apparently run a standard pressure of 3.2 bar so to start with I have purchased (eBay) an adjustable pressure regulator and am going to swap out the standard one on the return side of the fuel rail and see if I can adjust it up to 4 bar if this doesn't solve the stalling then I may have to install another pump but I'm trying not to have to do that if I can.

So I feel I have all of the electrical issues now in hand and just need to finish a couple of my things and the issue above then should be able to look at progressing to inspection and rego.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Wally it went pretty well but needs a wheel alignment and I was too concerned about being out on the road to do too much I think I got it up to about 90k's  but next time I will give it a bit more stick and I think I will get the wheel alignment before I do that.
Really need to solve the fuel pressure thing before any of that, if is a pressure problem.

Going well, Neil.
Be good to have the rego and insurance bit ticked off.... the remaining areas can then be ironed out on the road... which, if your build is anything like mine - is where they showed up...

The ute continues to look great.

Can you let me know what you used for the bailey channel and door belts and who you got them off for your one piece glass on the front doors.

Ive used some bailey from Rares but it doesnt like the bend much on the small radius.

Thanks

Haven't done much on Frank lately there is only a couple of things left but with everything going on at the moment I'm just going to take it slow.

Pulled the covers off yesterday and fitted an external fuel pump into the system; the engine had been stalling; I'd had to increase the idle to 1000 rpm and it seemed a little rough, when I spoke to the guy I got the engine from he told me that he run an in tank pump and an external pump to keep pressure up to the bigger injectors, so after procrastinating for a couple of weeks I got in and did it.

Frank is still up on stands (again ) so not sure if this has fixed the stalling/starving issue but when I started him up the idle did seem smoother so I will have to wait until I put him back on the ground to see if I have actually solved anything

Am going to leave him on stands for a little while and bleed the brakes again and fit the tonneau cover.

Is the ecu tuned for that motor? its putting out more than a standard supercharged ecotec.

ECU not tunes for the motor yet mate; they guy I'm going to take it to is a tuner only, he rewrites the Delco ECU's, so I thought I should fit the extra pump in case I take it to him and he can't get it run properly because it is starving; if I did that and he couldn't tune it right I would be wasting my money and having to bring it back to him again after I fixed it so I thought better to fit it.

Yes it is pretty close if not better then the L67 motor dyno chart from the car it was in was 230 rwHp

Sounds a little funny that bigger injectors give you idle drama at low revs. I'm no EFI expert, but I thought that the bigger injectors would just pull back on their duty cycle (i.e. not open as often) based on closed-loop A/F. Fuel flow is low, so the pressure reg on the rail should be pretty much wide open... lots of room to shut in.

Hi Harv;
I'm no expert on it either mate, as I said the ECU is standard, I have low manifold vacuum 5", it smells like it is running very rich so I don't think the ECU can control it and the guy was running 98 plus octane booster just trying not to waste money when it goes for tuning.

Maybe I was just imagining that it was idling better   once it goes back on the ground I'll know more.

Also meant to say the pressure reg is non adjustable on the commodore V6, they are vacuum controlled and on the outlet of the rail.

The reg tries to keep injector pressure about 3 bar above the inlet manifold pressure. So if the cam is a bit lumpy, inlet manifold pressure goes low (5" sounds waaaaaaay low... lopey 'orrible drag car territory) and the reg opens more (spills more fuel back to the tank) to give you (3 bar - 5"). If the reg cannot open enough, you get high fuel pressure and it may run rich if the A/F control can't keep up. Bigger pump won't help that one.

Cheers,
Harv
