Grey Motor Drag Car Build

Post by 59wagon »

I had this pop up in my Tapatalk feed last night. It might be interesting, or provide some leads, to those considering doing similar (Harv? ).

Methinks that might be the one and only BS from our forum. Didn't know he was building a Hambster though 8).

I caught up with Spanners (the other poster on the HAMB thread) last weekend at the Day of the Drags. Spanners also runs a grey-powered Hambster.

Looked like he was having a ball until we got rained out.

The kids were pretty impressed with his orange machine... now I have to convince the kids that we don't need a Hambster. Could have been worse... last time they came home from the Nostalgia Drags wanting a Fiat Toppolino.  .

Cheers,

Correct that is mine.

Will have another update up shortly, cooling system is all but done (waiting for the overflow to turn up) have 2 more lines to bend up and the fuel system will be complete. The list is slowly getting smaller.

Pete (spanners) is a great guy. In fact most the guys and gals who race this class are extremely helpful and happy to share info and advice. At the end of the day the class has never attracted huge numbers and is kinda niche so my experience has been everyone is always very helpful and encouraging when it comes to getting more numbers in the class. No doubt it will be different once I start lining up against them though...

I'll keep you guys updated.

And on a side note the IHRA tech inspector for my local area who I am working with is the one and only Monty Brown who you guys may know from the ex Adrian Kelly custom come drag car. When Adrian raced the car it had an inline chev 6. When Monty bought it it got an injected small block chev. Monty was also one of Brett Stevens head guys before his little mishap....

It very nearly did Neil , we had all the bits lying around but then we built the morry instead - cheaper and easier to rebody a MM than a 2 door EK if it ends up on its lid or in the wall .......

Yeah its a cool old thing especially when you look at all the versions the car went through when Adrian (who went on to become a national pro stock champion) and Monty owned the car.

Anyway, for anyone interested in the dragster ive updated the original thread with the latest progress.

Cheers
