That's looking real good, yes painting is seriously an art form.

What are your gauges and what do they fit normally ?

There's a few projects coming close to completion and its great to see.

Looking great Neil - try a stain in the Honey Oak tint or yellow Teak at darkest I reckon but be super sure to give the board a really nice fine sand to take out any scratches as the stain will absorb darker into scratches.

The gauges are from Speed Hut in the good old US of A have a look at their web site mate the speedo is a 4 1/2", they are not cheap but seem excellent quality.
There is a guy in our club (he put me on to them) that makes up perspex spacers for the back, I think I show them in one of the photos, he is toying with making alloy ones for a bit better support. And yes figured I'm a better grease monkey than a painter

I have actually bought a lime wash stain and will do a large sample first before going the whole way I think the lime wash white will give a good contrast to the orange but who knows this is the third time I've changed my mind.

if you want a clean contrast Give Black Japan a try - stainless would look killer over that.

Hey Wal;
I just had a look at the Black Japan stain and as you say would give a good contrast but I just think it needs to be light rather than dark I will put a picture up of the lime wash when I do the test piece.

And fun and games just got delivered spaghetti in a bag now I just have to fit it; adapt it to the V6, get the gauges to work and the VP wipers to operate easy hey

So got into the workshop Saturday and started putting in the wiring with the easy part being from the back forward, can't say enough about the Vintage Wiring harness, wires are well marked along with the written instructions, all wires are original colour coding so easy to follow in the manual wiring diagram.
I have to mod the back slightly to connect in the additional brake light and the harness comes with the wire for the reversing lights but is not connected so I have to figure that one also.


I got a hold of the lime wash stain and clear varnish, applied one coat of both, clear is still wet in the first couple of photos


What it should look like when all bolted in, stainless strips to be polished, probably after xmas now, before being bolted in. I like the light colour contrast to the body colour I think if I had of gone dark it would have been too much.

Looks really great Neil .

I found with Grace's ute that I was a bit hesitant about putting stuff in the back at first. It was all nice and painted, and the board strips were neat too. Once I got over that, I found that the board strips (and shiny board) help stuff to slide around. A carton of beer would slide from one end of the tub to the other (I was perhaps as worried about the beer as the tub ).

I hunted around for a tray liner, and ended up using this stuff from Bunnings:

They also have it in smaller pre-cut sizes (cheaper), but the 600x900 was not wide enough to cover all the ute tub:

I figure to use the tray liner for day-to-day, and if I want to get fancy it pulls out easy enough to show the board.

Sorry Bones but I think it is far from the quality that a trophy car needs to be just trying to do the best job I can and I like to drive my cars too much for them to be trailer queens, but just between you and me (don't tell anybody else OK ) I don't think there will be anything going in the back either

Clay I am going to be really ambitious and try to make a hard tonneu frame and one of the guys over here said he would cover it for me as he has one on his ute that he made years ago there are also some pretty good photos of the one on JB's ute on the FE FC forum in the "365 Weeks" build.

Another of the club guys said he had an advert for a company in the eastern states that were making them but he can't remember the name of the company and I don't think he can find the add; does anybody know who it might be??
