There is something very, very satisfying about the idea of a luxo-barge like the RR driving like that. Surely it would get dispensation from the anti-hoon laws?

Harv,
I don’t want to sound smug, but it is friggin awesome :yeahhh: driving what a lot of people regard as the best car in the world that does awesome burn outs, it literally frightens people as it is the LAST thing they expect.
The 72 Shadow was given a stroke job from 6.2L (from 1959) to 6.75L due to even more emission regulations in the UK.
A car magazine in 1972 quote her 0-60mph sprint in 9 seconds, not bad for a 2 1/2 ton luxo barge.

The basic 6.75L aluminium block is still the same one used in the latest Bentley Mulsane limo.
VW group own Bentley now so still use that block, or their own W12’s in the Bentley Continentals.
BMW now own Rolls-Royce and use their own sourced V12. The latest Phantom 8 released this year is the first turbo car RR have ever done. They run a satellite controlled 10 speed ZF auto.

I actually had a guy a few months ago in a brand new R8 I left at the lights abuse me when we pulled up at the next lights.
Well you can probably guess the direction of my finger as he left in a cloud of smoke at those lights.

So yes pretty satisfying mate, plus the police ignor me :ninja22:
This car is worth no where near good FB’s or EK’s but something different.
I’ve had old Holdens most of my life, so this was just something I’ve always wanted to own & build.

Love that description John, so good!
Yes 100 octane was readily available in the UK in the 60’s.
But I can’t seem to find anything else on the net that required it.
Anyway, only the driver or cheufer needed to worry about that!!

This was also the first monocoque car RR did, and the first car they did with disc brakes.
Twin callipers on each front disc, with a 2500psi brake pump & accumulator system. (no vac booster)
When charged (off twin pumps that run in the valley of the V8 off the cam) you can get up to 50 pumps of the brakes without the car even running.
Factory fitted Turbo Hydro 400
Saginaw power steering
GM air conditioning compressor.
Quite a few parts from what most say was the car they wanted to better, the GM Cadillac.

Here is the massive rear end this car has.

I have used the "valve saver" set ups which drip into the manifold for many years (mostly on LPG-only red motors), and a couple I had used the tank top-up method, all ran well and at head rework time, never saw a bad valve seat. I have also run the lubricator type with straight diesel without any bad effects. The goo you buy to put in these set-ups (Flashlube, etc) is mainly diesel anyway.

Funny you mention Diesel.
A friend who is a 20’s Chev specialist only runs Diesel as any type of additive in the old Chevs.

I once had an old Toyota landcruiser, 4 litre cast iron head that was originally designed for leaded fuel. When the unleaded come in I just used it and with no additive.
I can say I ended up with just under 20,000 kms before an exhaust valve burned from the edge inwards. The car had done about 80000kms before this with leaded fuel.
I can only assume that it was the petrol that caused the damage and after it was repaired I did another 30000kms with additive then sold it without issue.
