Bumper irons colour

Post by 59wagon »

Hi, I’ve taken the front bumper off for some repairs and would like to know what the factory colour was for the bumper irons/brackets - black, body colour, chrome?
Also, what about the colour on the inside of the bumpers and over riders? I’m guessing unpolished chrome but there’s evidence of body colour inside the over riders.
As you can see, mine have developed a “country dust and rust” hue over the years Image

Cheers,

John

I have some new old stock ones in a box somewhere and by memory I think they are just a matt black colour.

I will have a look this weekend that will solve my curiosity as well

So I found my new old stock bumper irons and it has confused me even more now !!!

So one set are bare with rust preventing something on them and the other set is close to clinker grey so its anyones guess.

Now that throws a cat amongst the pigeons, although the unpainted one would explain why so many are rusted today.

I can't post the photo because its bigger than 2MB, does anyone know how to post a photo bigger than 2MB ?

Hey Greg,
Don't' think we can upload pics over 2 mega bananas 🍌. I resize them down so they can be uploaded.

Thanks, Greg. After cleaning mine up, I found black paint but don’t know if that’s original.
Also, the inside of the bumpers and over riders are unpolished chrome.
If you need a hand resizing photos, shout out.

Cheers,
John

So here is the two different NOS bumper bar brackets.

Hey Greg, any chance you could make a cardboard template of one of those and mark the bend points and the offset ? I have people asking for these reasonably regularly , might be worth getting a couple of sets laser cut ? I would get a pair for myself done as well

Hi Blacky,

Which bit ? I am assuming the irons themselves and not the supports ?
