The hammertone suits the era, is a little more forgiving of scuff marks, and seems to set a bit harder than normal rattlecan paint.
that DOES look good... the nickle cadmium plating we had done on the old man's wagon was nearly as bright as that when it was new. I might just pinch that idea if you don't mind! :ninja22:

I am a fan of that stuff. Durable and easy to get a factory look finish. Seem to remember about the no emblem caps now. Cool.

G'day Harv,
The ute looks great. The finish of the chrome, paint, upholstery makes a great combination. I suspect your daughter is going to be pestered every time she drives it anywhere. Maybe Grace need personalised no plates "Not4sale ?

Hey Harv, another detail I spotted that I’m curious about: the rubber piece on the tailgate support arm - I trust that’s there to stop rattles in the closed position?
Is it factory and If not, what did you use?

Damn I love looking at this car. Such a great colour trim combo... ahh.

The round rubbers on the tailgate "rattling rods" stop them from rattling. They put a bit of tension on the rods in the closed position by "leaning" ont eh tailgate. Makes the tailgate firmer too... mine now shuts with a nice clunk, whereas without the rubbers it was a little sloppy.

According to legend, you can get them at Rare Spares, though I have not tried. I went to Bunnings and bought some rubber door stops (Aroored 37mm Black Rubber Round Door Stop: https://www.bunnings.com.au/adoored-37m ... p_p3961324). The originals are smaller diameter (from memory about 1"OD), and have a larger ID. I drilled out the Bunnings rubber ID, then put a temporary bolt into the rubber. Put the bolt into the drill press and voila! Western Sydney Hillbilly Lathe  . Used a fine flat file to mill down the rubber OD, then a few bits of abrasive paper to smooth them. Cut a slit in the side, and slid them onto the rattling rods. I had the ID pretty tight, so they hold themselves in place with no glue.

If you are going to Bunnings, buy half a dozen of the door stops... they are the same ones that you use to make the rear bumperette rubbers  .

Either that or personalised plates that read "DADSMAD" .

Had to laugh, putting the bumpers back on the ute and Dad commented that all the chrome on Grace's ute is far nicer than my wagon project. Not too many rough bits on it, suspect a lot of it was rechromed a decade ago by the Queensland guy who owned it.

The good thing about Grace driving an EK ute is that she realises it stands out... if she plays up, it will be hard to act innocent and blend into the crowd.

Bugger - thanks Tim. Clay, if you are still interested in an FB/EK hubcap swap, I would be keen please. Gotta admit though that some of the caps on Grace's ute are rough.

Admit it, you're sponsored by Bunnings aren't you?! Another ripper idea though, I gotta hand it to you. Thanks again
