Speedo connection

Post by LYNCHPIN »

Hi all,

Does anyone know (I'm sure someone out there will) how to attach the old speedo cable from the standard dash to a t700 transmission?

Pardon my mechanical ignorance but my mate who is an ex mechanic isn't sure how to do this and my mechanical knowledge isn't great to say the least.

If it has been covered before, any help pointing me to the topic would be greatly appreciated.

Which T700 do you have ? There is an early and a late one, the late ones have an inductive pickup for the speedo and it costs BIG $$$$$ to get them to work - Castle Auto Electrics in Vic or V6 Conversions in Moree in NSW should be able to help you out with what you need for either early or late box.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Not sure what model trans it is, Harko fitted it when he had the car. Will check with him and contact Castle Auto electrics.

Thanks for your advice.

only problem using the cable with a T700 is as far as i can find out you can't get different gears to go inside the box if the speedo is out.... however there are ratio correction boxes around.

I have a t700 in the torana and i used the original speed sensor on the box and bought a VDO electronic speedo to connect to it, it allows full calibration and works well (looks like a normal speedo with a digital odometer and wires on the back instead of a cable.

having said that it was aboue $300 .... they come in 80 85 and 100mm diameters if you are interested.

Sammy,
Your pretty much on the money, and thats exactly what I did. Ran the Commodore speed sensor and VDO electronic speedo, Super easy to calibrate and slots nicley in the dash.
But If you stil want the Original speedo to hook up, then try Marks Adaptors, they do a lot of 4wd conversions, including the T700 behind most Fourbys
