Hi,
I recently picked up a second hand ek holden front bumper and overriders and used the right and center section and fitted the overriders onto the new bumper and they don't sit straight, they are leaning out. How can I straighten up the overriders or is this normal?
Thank you
Geoff
Overriders Bent
Re: Overriders Bent
Geoff,
I'm thinking this one through as I type . . . it's been a good few years since I last mucked around with an EK.
First, make certain that the bumper is sitting straight when viewed from the side, and not pitching down at the front.
The top surface of the overriders should be horizontal when everything's correctly aligned, but it is normal for them to look like they're leaning out at the front.
You'd need to check that the cutout section in the overriders matches up to the curve of the front bumper with minimum gaps. Some gentle hammer-and-dolly work may be necessary on the parts of the overriders that are folded inwards, particularly the mounting tabs, to make certain that the overriders line up correctly with the bumper.
And finally, assemble the bumper sections and overriders finger-tight, install on the car, line everything up, and only when you're satisfied with the alignment, tighten all the bolts up.

Re: Overriders Bent
Thanks Rob,
Sounds like I need to take it off again, when I was putting it back together it looked like I had left and right overrides as the holes didn't line up on one side, but would fit on the over side. Appreciate your help. I'll post up a picture tomorrow Errol.
Regards
Geoff

Re: Overriders Bent
Geoff,
A thousand words, as they say . . .
It's fairly straightforward to knock the dents out of the overrider without doing too much more damage to the chrome. Get a old hessian sack and put a couple of shovelfuls of sand into it, and use a length of hard wood as a drift. Put the overrider facing down on the sandbag, and gently work the dents out with a hammer and the drift. You may have to squeeze the sides of the overrider in gently with a vice to remove the bulge on one side.
And I think you can get fairly clear access into an EK overrider from behind (?)

Re: Overriders Bent
As Rob says. From the photo it looks like it is leaning to passenger side at top. With big strong hands you should be able to straighten it up.
