spraying acrylic with a flattening base.

I have a love job on tommorow, and the guy wants his car sprayed in a flat finish.........

What ratio should be applied when added to paint, should i bother rubbing back between coates, should i only apply on last coats, any tips, ideas....Can this stuff be added premixed by colour mixing guy?

Hi,
I usually write pages on paint - relax, don't have much here.
I bought some clinker grey to do the dash on mine a few years ago and it was packaged as gloss - I went back and was told that it could not be altered - the finish type was created in a formula ratio on mixing.

I still have doubts on this, but they are the specialists - what would I know.

As a modeller, I know I can add flattener, gloss and anything in between by mixing in an additive - surprise, surprise - many of my preferred paints are acrylic........................

I know we have a spray painter on the site and am waiting response - you will get the good oil from him - as will we all................

just waiting patiently - hope he hasn't gone for a holiday and left the rest of us here pondering.....................

thanks rosco, well see if he may shed some light on the situation.

I just want to get this wagon out of my hair, spent all day doing a hell of a lot of body work, and have some left in the morning. I think the owner will be a very happy man when he opens his garage on xmas morning. If i dont get a reply here, ill ask some one at a paint shop, and post my learnings up for every one else.

G'day RETRO, I can get a flat finish accidentally!! D'OH!
But seriously, you should be able to buy a flattening additive a most auto paint supply shops, I know this as I have some in my shed.. I think I got it from a mate who was getting rid of his acrylic paint bits because his spray shop was going all 2 pack..

P.S. If you can't find any you can always try more thinner and less amount out the gun from the same distance BUT TRY IT ON AN OLD DOOR OR SOMETHING FIRST!!

to get flat paint i was originally told to mix at 10% this varies a little from brand to brand but this usually gives a very flat finish
over the years and mucking around a bit as i like a semi flat finish i mix at about 5% so i guess between 5-10% should do the trick and yes they can mix it in at the shop have fun

thanks all, sputzwagon.... got that additive, works like a charm. I even went against my belief that anything below a two mill tip on the gun is destined for trouble and used the 1.4 mill tip and she was like a dream and almost dry by the time she hit the panel.

Ratbox.... 5-10% give or take worked well thanks, i knew you would be the best person to ask.lol... dont worry, shes not purple BUT i did spray a VW orange last weekend.

Ok matty, i dont have pics of the completed product as the car is to be assembled this week.I will post photos of the process as soon as the owner gives me the pics he took.
